I think we’ll play in next seasons final too, and it will be in December, is that earlier than some people think?

I thought the stadium was great! Very very good. Organization was poor, no clear directions at the ground thus a zombie shuffle to the fence where a gap appeared and then all if a sudden you were nearly in. The lack of drinking water in the ground was poor. The way they split the metro stations was odd and walking back afterwards there was no signage to the station we were alloted (ubered in before the game which was easy!). Police were very decent I found. I made sure to have a great time and not focus on these bits, however it could’ve been much better organized.

Kane’s looked poor tonight, is he even 50 percent fit?

Hoping he can have a good rest now. Hate seeing him rushed back.

He's actually 35% fit, which is why Poch played him for the entire CL final and why Southgate played him for the second half AND extra time today.

Does feel like a long time (well 2 ankle injuries) ago that Kane was bullying defences like this... hopefully once Sunday’s 3rd place playoff is out of the way (you just know he’ll insist upon playing) Harry will put his feet up until pre-season...

Its pretty obvious to those who have seen him come back the last couple of times he is NOT fit.

'England and Spurs need to realize that a half-fit Harry Kane is no use'.

No. Harry Kane needs to realize that a half-fit Harry Kane is no use.

I love the man, but his competitive streak is slowly burning him out, and he needs to really, truly rest and come back fit.

Personally, I would be 400% fine with him not coming back into action until Sep.10 - three months from now, after the start of the season.

We can do without him for a little bit - give him that time to rest, train and get back into shape. Because otherwise, a sixth ankle injury and even more sluggishness is coming.

Agreed but if the managers are unwilling to tell him the truth, it is also a sore point. I am not happy that he started the match.

I have no doubt that Poch told him the truth. But I also have little doubt that Poch gives Harry an enormous amount of leeway to decide when he's fit and when he isn't - seems part of Poch's loyalty to him, and his approach in terms of encouraging belief that his players can beat the odds.

I agree, though - going forward Poch would benefit from being more stern in this area. A bit of short-term pain could mean a longer-term gain.

As for Southgate, I have no idea if he told Kane anything. The FA have a habit of calling up our players to play these utterly meaningless glorified friendlies on a regular basis, regardless of their condition. Winksy is the only exception to that - ironic, because the team could have done with him against the Dutch and the Swiss.

Looking forward to seeing him getting a good break and hopefully reflecting that he doesn’t necessarily need to play every game to fulfil his ambitions. I think initially he thought he could post messi or Ronaldo like appearance numbers but he needs to listen to his body.

He needs a break big time but we also need Poch to rest him now and again and also sign someone else who can play upfront when needed and relieve the burden.

The other thing that needs to change is him always dropping into midfield and trying to be Rooney, he's so much more use to us staying up top and leading the line.

That is what I see too. Maybe fit enough to play but lacking match sharpness and not quite on the pace of the game.

He doesn’t play anymore than Ronaldo, Messi, Modric, Ham Salad, etc. The best players usually play almost all games for their clubs and country. I don’t think resting him is as much of an issue as it’s made out to be. Resting him wouldn’t have prevented his ankle issues.

Rushing him back from the injuries I see an argument for being a problem though, although I’d say it’s sharpness he lacks when he comes back and the best way you get that is by playing.

FWIW I’d have had him on the bench in the final, bought on for last 30 minutes.

This is my point about Poch. It's all good being a coach/best friend/favourite uncle but the bottom line is his job is to manage. Start getting all Fergie on the situation when it comes to England, and when it comes to Tottenham ease Kane back into games. There's nothing wrong with starting on the bench, he could analyse the game, see a weakness in the defence and then exploit it when he comes on in the 70th for example.

Surely whenever you come back from injury there's a good chance you're going to lack full match sharpness? Does it not follow that you need actual game time in order to reach it?

Given his outstanding scoring record and the fact that Rashford was injured I don't blame Southgate for starting Kane, it was always going to be worth a punt. And his performance was hardly that bad either.

Seems some on here may be a little too eager to chime in with the prevailing narrative that he needs three months off.

Pfft. Had his clever swivel and instant shot crept just inside the post instead of whistling just past maybe we'd have been spared this turgid narrative.
