There's nothing wrong about being City-esque, if you can afford it. And we all know HOW City can afford it. Having a B-squad capable of doing well in the league would be great and all, but presuming our funds aren't unlimited there are other areas of the team I'd rather see us splash serious cash than our attacking midfield. Lo Celso is probably not coming cheap, and I for one think we would be better off replacing/upgrading RB and CB than adding yet another AM for that kind of money. Signing Ndombele was a huge step forward in an area sorely needed, now there are others.

A useful Wanyama is but a faint memory, and tbh so is Llorente. Those spots could almost be covered by academy players for free. Dembele was always "in rotation" anyway, and has been replaced.

You are talking about PSG like as if you think they act "normal" and rationally. It's PSG though. Nothing they do is rational.

Who are moaning? Seeing as we probably won't spend 100M net, would you like to see us going into the next campaign (to quote Poch: our title pushing one) with 3 top class AMs on the bench while starting Trippier and Sanchez/Foyth in a back 4? I wouldn't.

People in this thread saying we have too many players, we will sell players as well as bring more in. I'm sure we have someone in mind at RB given the noises that Trippier is off.

Hope you're right, still I don't think anyone after last season can say that we have too many players. Just that we have some squad players not up to scratch for a seriously title-chasing team. I personally would like to see us fixing cracks before layering double, not pooling the majority of the funds into the area I think we're best equipped, even without Eriksen. This may be seen upon as moaning, but too many years watching too much football has given me the exclusively and entirely self-pronounced ability to see signs that someone's "got it". I'll be the first to admit that this is no exact science, but I've got to say I don't see neither Foyth nor Sanchez as our future pillars in defence. Ok, maybe Sanchez. Still an opinion I would love to be proven wrong about, but not at the expense of a season if Toby leaves. A Van Dijk-level CB would be excellent, as well as a near top level RB, before considering Lo Celso. If Ndombele is even 75% of the player he's rumoured to be, he will make our AMs so much better no matter who we play there.

If anything, I see Foyth as more likely to be one of our future two main CBs, but that's just my opinion.

Foyth might good. But of all the great players I have seen none started off making the glaring errors this lad has.

The two French lads at RB Leipzig look like the future to me.

In my perception, Sanchez strikes me as raw. Foyth, in a strictly footballing-sense, appears to me as over-confident in relation to ability (not potential, mind), or dare I say a bit "dumb". Now, that is not necessarily a disadvantage to a footballer, but it is to a defender. If anything, I see Foyth doing ok further up the pitch, where this particular trait can actually be a plus. If a winger tries something outlandish and pulls it off - instant hero. If a defender tries something similar and fails, well, you've seen for yourselves, on several occations. I have no academic reason to believe so, but I fear that such things are quite imprinted in a player his age, and not something you can easily "untrain" on this level without changing who the player are. My armchair coach badge suggests that we'd be better off making use of his strengths instead. Yet again, no malice intended, but one of the "dumbest" players I've seen - as in often being brilliant when acting instinctively but likewise choosing poorly when given time to think - was Robbie Keane, and he did pretty well for himself. Purely my opinion, of course.

On the other hand, I see in Foyth someone who is positionally very good for his age and is also very good and confident with the ball at his feet. Just a matter of getting game time and experience to iron out his brainfarts. Sanchez, in my opinion, doesn't have as much potential. Doesn't mean he can't be a solid CB for us, I just think Foyth has more upside.

Sanchez is a "stopper", whereas Foyth is a "play it out from the back" CB, different styles but both equally useful. I can see the two of them making up our CB partnership late next season.

I remember a kid going in goal at United and looking poor... now people think he is the best around

I vaguely remember Kompany looking clumsy in CB in Germany at Hamburg so they moved him to CM to teach him

John stones looked worse at the same age and he went for £50m cos he could pass a ball apparently
