Didn't want us to sign back Bale earlier for the way he forced us to sell him to Real Madrid. But looking at our poor form now, we badly need players like Bale to come and lift us. He maybe 31 and injury-prone now but his presence will have positive impact on current Spurs players who had been on depressed mode since losing the CL final. Hopefully Bale can help us win a trophy or two this season.

I told them we already got one
I hope Bale gets along with Mourinho's management style. It's going to be a lot different than being managed by Harry I suspect, and it could very easily turn out to be an unhappy move for both. When things get tough, Mourinho has a tendency to go public on his players in a way that seems more about protecting Mourinho than motivating the player in question. I wouldn't like to see that happening with Bale and risk tarnishing the fantastic memories associated with Bale's time at Spurs.

He was with us alot longer than other players considered legends, Klinsmann wanted out after one season.

Bale has been saying for years that he'd possibly like to return to Spurs one day.

I really do not give a brick about what fans of other teams have to say or what some hacks in the press say either. Its a great move from Levy, Jose to bring him back here, i am not saying it will be a great sucsess ( we shall see) but the uplift it will give the other players being joined in the dressing room by a world class player will be enormous, the fans will be uplifted and it will help lift the club going forward.

Bale can still shoot from range. I think he will be our set piece specialist too.

I don't know why, but it hasn't really sunk in that we've just signed a global superstar.

Maybe it's because we saw him as that snowflake more worried about his hair clip than taking a throw in.
Maybe because he just so familiar.
Maybe because it became a circus at Madrid.

But if this was Ibra or Shevchenko or Figo (i think they all compare), it would feel different.

    Very happy he's here.

A lot of it is agenda driven. I don't see any way that bringing Bale back is not a good move. Signings are risky no matter how talented the player. Look at our signings in recent years. Bale is as risk free as you can get for me. An explosive talent that adds firepower and options to a team brimming with them.

You can see it in the media with how Lampard and Jose get treated. Yeah Jose is a results man but you hear "Frank needs time to build". And I agree with that to an extent. I actually quite like Lampard and rate him. But Frank's had a season and a bit which has included a proper pre-season to get into it. His club have spent money like it's going out of fashion this season. The narrative on Jose is that he needs to deliver quickly or he's a failure. It's flimflam. Jose inherited a mess and has not had a proper pre-season and has had to rebuild a team on a tighter budget. He's also at a club that, in recent history, has won squat compared to the lottery winners so he's having to change a mindset and culture too. Why aren't the media calling for him to be given time?

Really good summary of it. It's amazing how the media can't update their own narrative, regardless of what is actually happening.

Given all the current context, it remains a brilliant move and I remain fudging delighted!

Yeah the media have really shown how their opinions are agenda driven.

Man U signing Jadon Sancho: He is the best player in the world.
Man U possibly signing Bale and Reguilon instead: Just as good but even better value for money!
Spurs sign them: Bale's past it, haven't heard of the other guy.

Also it was noticeable how quick they were to jump on our dip in form for the past year -- almost gleeful that we missed out on top 4 (nobody mentions we over achieved for years now), even last week it was how terribly poor Spurs are. We score 5 goals and suddenly they act like they thought we were good all along.

Being a football journalist must be the easiest job in the world.

If you want to cause yourself a bit of needless anger, or amusement at those less able, have a read of Stan Collymore's hot take in the Mirror.

As with all mirrors, it shows the opposite of the way things are. (I've often reflected that it's a great name for that particular rag)
