European Super League - Dead on arrival

https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsl...-1000--new-champions-league-format-explained/

Qualification for the Champions League will continue to be open and depend on a club’s final position in the previous season’s domestic league competition. The additional four slots available in 2024/25 will be allocated according to three different criteria:
  • Slot one: awarded to a club from the country placed fifth in UEFA’s national association coefficient rankings. Each association's coefficient is based on the results of its clubs’ performances in five previous Champions League and Europa League seasons.
  • Slot two: awarded to the domestic league champion with the highest club coefficient among all other domestic champions that have not automatically qualified for the Champions League’s league stage.
  • Slots three and four: awarded to the two clubs with the highest club coefficients that have not qualified automatically for the Champions League’s league stage, but have qualified either for the Champions League qualification phase or the Europa League/the Europa Conference League (due to start in the 2021/22 season)
Under the new format, teams will play four matches more than is currently the case. They will no longer play three opponents twice – home and away – but will instead face fixtures against 10 different teams, half of them at home and half of them away.

The top eight teams (of 36) will advance automatically to the round of 16, those sides placed between ninth and 24th will enter a play-off round. Those who finished between ninth and 16th will be seeded in the play-off draw, meaning they will face a team placed 17th to 24th – with home advantage in the second-leg match. Teams who finish 25th or lower will be eliminated, with no access to the UEFA Europa League.

The eight clubs who prevail in the play-offs will then progress to the round of 16 where they will each face one of the top-eight finishers.

From the round of 16 onward, the competition will continue to follow its existing format of knockout rounds leading to the final staged at a neutral venue selected by UEFA.

This is also a terrible idea, particularly slots 3 and 4 and the playoff idea which means pretty much all the main clubs will get a second opportunity to sneak back into the last 16.

Leicester, Everton and West Ham will be leading a campaign to have points deductions for the 6 teams involved
The smart move would have offered them a 7th place, for them to sign up and then presented the actual deal for 6. Just to prove they would have signed up if invited.

With woodward gone i suspect that he was the mastermind for the PL clubs.
I wonder how much levy was party to the decisions or was his hand forced?
Anyways the decision to sack JM before a cup final is very risky... with Emirates Marketing Project missing out on the quadruple they might be looking to prove a point. I think it will be a high scoring game and i hope we get some of the goals!

There's a lot being made of Woodward resigning. But all that's happened is the club have formally announced his retirement at the end of 2021, which was known to be happening anyway. He's hardly falling on his sword over this.

Did initially look like us and United has used the smokescreen to get rid of unpopular senior members of staff!

Yes, can’t see them getting anything against the genius who appointed Mourinho, who led Tottenham gloriously into the ESL, and who has masterminded a cabinet full of trophies over his 20 years in charge.
Yet has now got a club that’s bigger than all of them combined on the world stage

If you want an example of Levy v West Ham check out the terms of their stadium lease...
The other side of that is listen to West Ham fans about their stadium v our fans about our stadium.
Also compare the profits we'll make out of our stadium compared to West Ham.

From 2024 the two teams with highest coefficient who have already qualified for Europe (in any of the 3 competitions) but not qualified for a CL Group stage position get auto entry to CL group

Very good for us!!!!

Unfortunately the 12 clubs resigned from the body that makes these rules. Expect changes....
