Starting to sound a lot like an out of court settlement position now.

"Accept the two year ban without a lengthy court case and we'll drop the other investigation"

I think that underestimates City's determination to battle this if so. Their entire model is built on being able to spend heavily with unearned funds. If they don't fight this and win then their owners will essentially have to give up and start a 30 year process to build a fanbase that resembles those of Utd, the Victims or even Spurs.

If they lose their appeal and therefore are proven to be financially doped, does that also mean they have 2 years to cut their expenditure by the amount they have been ‘gifted’ to prevent a further punishment for exceeding the permitted losses threshold?

Yes, but pelanties for overspending have been fairly mild. Don't expect any further bans for that.

I found the journalist who was explaining the issue really hard to listen to He seemed to ramble quite a lot imo. David Conn on the Guardian podcast was good (although a shorter version).
There must be so much investigative journalism that’s taken place around City but has been held back for legal reasons. It will be interesting to see how this all unfolds over the coming months.

It's not helped by UEFA not releasing the case, so we won't know the full details until the appeal.

The journo on Ornstein And Chapman was certainly very thorough. I wasn't too keen on him giving his views on the approach that City have taken, I'd put more weight on a lawyer's opinion on that.

Loads of empty seats at City tonight, would be surprised if there’s 25k there?

They just need to have an executive box that costs a couple of mill per game so Etihad can rent it to make up for it.

normally i'd side with the team that can afford the best lawyers but UEFA really want to make an example here, Emirates Marketing Project get punched in the face, in fact i could see something worse like a 3 year ban.

City's best case seems to come down to statute of limitations and UEFA reopening the case after releasing them from the settlement regime. City will point out that CAS killed off an attempt to reopen the PSG case.

Otherwise it comes down to who paid for the inflated Etihad sponsorship. UEFA originally bought City's argument that it came from Etihad and Monsour's position as chairmen of the investment fund that ultimately owns both City and Etihad wasn't influential. Yes, sure. Now the e-mails make it more obvious that UEFA were fooled or compliant.
