Johnny nice-tits
Am driving up from Essex in the October half term for a 4 day break with the family
We have 3 nights sorted in a lovely B & B on the outskirts
We now want to leave a day earlier and stop the night half way so about 3 hours up north from Essex
Anybody with any ideas of nice places we could stop, preferably with something to do for the kids there during the day

Thanks in advance

We did Edinburgh a few years ago, and did the same, 3 nights at Musselburgh Premier Inn just outside Edinburgh and got the train in.

Amazing City and tbh two day trips around it were nowhere near enough to take in all the great sights. Will definitely go back again in a few years...when retirement kicks in

Have heard so many good things about the place
Defo breaking the car journey up is a must on the way up there, 7 hours is a lot
On the way home they will just sleep no doubt

Nice, North of London :D

Edinburgh's lovely though.

Great city. I know it best from my student days visiting a mate who studied there, so the pubs are my specialist area. A climb up Arthur’s Seat is a must though. Amazing views.

Arthur's Seat is a pretty grand viewpoint - had my engagement photos done there and very nice they were too.

Harrogate and Knaresborough are good shouts for stopover points. Ripon isn't far away either. Shame that the Dales are a bit too westerly for your needs, and not really suited to what you're needing - but a delightful part of the world.

York has more there for kids than Harrogate

we drove up, stopped at York for the day not went on another 90 mins to Saudi Sportswashing Machine and stayed at a Village hotel there as it had a pool for the kids that night to use
Then it’s 2 1/2 hours to Edinburgh or less
