Personally I think he is a better right back but maybe that is just me.

I don't mind Royal, but it is a bit gutting that we could have had Tomiyasu, who'd be perfect on the right of our back 3. Even though I understand the left-footer on the left side thing, a back 3 of Romero - Dier - Tomiyasu would have been very solid, with Doherty as a RWB until something better (literally anyone) comes along.

If only Conte had joined in the summer...

Remember sons first 6 months? Modric even?

Give players a chance to settle in a new club/country/role.

Apart from gollini. He can go back.

Royal will be just fine. This is his first season. Give him some more time.

You would have been whining for a RWB if we had bought Tomiyasu.

    1. I said I don't mind Royal
    2. I said I'd be ok with Doherty until something else came along

    No whining

Romero appears to be our first choice RCB going on the early signs snd by what others have said not suited to the central position so Tomiyasu would have had to sink or swim on the right

He's fine as a right back. Defensively he's very good. He's strong, has good pace and handles 1vs1 situations. The problem is that his offensive capability is limited. His crossing is pretty woeful. Neither pace nor accuracy, and he's a bit like Sissoko when it comes to beating his man. He's got the power, but is a bit clumsy with the ball.
His attributes has nothing to do with settling in.

Yes and like @afsoc4life said had we got Tomiyasu in we would have had the same issue. He is a defensive RB player who can play CB too, he suits Arsenals system not ours. Royal could well fit as a RCB eventually, he is decent on the ball in terms of being comfortable on the ball and can dribble - he just isn’t dynamic enough on the wing to create, but could do the equivalent job of Ben Davies….

Completely my thoughts as well when I saw people saying we made a mistake by not getting Tomiyasu

Tomiyasu has been one of the best players in the Premier League this season. He would absolutely make a difference for us. Look at how much Tanganga has cost us this season (especially recently.)

Look at how much better Romero is than Tomiyasu
Look how little royal has cost us defensively…
Your barking up the wrong tree here
Sanchez has played well too in the same position that tomiyasu would play for us
The reality is he wouldn’t be a good wing back for us
What tomiyasu would offer is a player who can play right or left of a 3 but I’ve never seen him play left so don’t know how good he would be there
I think with plenty of signings and the ones we could have had there is alway revisionism
The ones you didn’t sign are amazing and the ones you did are poor…. It’s normally somewhere in between im sure you would agree

I've not said Tomiyasu is a RWB. I also wanted us to sign him in the summer (check the thread I started.)

I think Doherty is one of the worst players to play for Spurs. But RWB is a great place to hide those deficiencies, and we know he's done well there before in an attacking sense. Once again, I don't mind Royal but with where we are right now I think Doherty with Tomiyasu in behind him would have been better. Why can't Romero play on the left?

Anyway, there's no point going on about it. Royal was done before Conte came in and I think he'll become a useful player in time.

Accidentally posted on the wrong thread but Paratici has done fine so far:

    Romero looks class
    Gil has bags of potential
    Sarr - TBC
Royal - looks less likely to be a success, unless as a RCB, but debatable he'd have been signed had Conte been in charge given requirements of his system
Gollini - only a loan so whilst he looks like failing, its not really costing us much

The problem (as is pretty consistent at Spurs) is that there is no long term planning on the playing side of things so we lurch from one manager to another, don't quite get them the signings they ask for, sack them because they can't fit the previous manager's players (who were purchased for a different system) work in their own system and then do exactly the same thing all over again. The irony being that it ends up costing us a lot more money through severance payouts, lower value European competitions and having to take losses on players not fit for the next manager's system.

Getting in a patsy in the summer instead of getting Conte means we have done the exact same thing in the last window (bought a specialist RB when we are now playing wing backs and bought a traditional left winger when the new manager's system doesn't use one). I suspect the same thing will happen all over again next summer, we'll not get Conte all of the players he wants, he'll walk and then we'll bring in a manager with a completely different system who won't have use for the few players we did purchase for Conte's system.

If Conte does walk after getting a portion of the players that he wants then the club have to ensure that the new manager is one that plays a similar 3-4-3/3-5-2 system.

These issues are the whole point of a DofF, is it not?

Absolutely.... But they also have to be given the freedom to do their job properly. Time will tell over the next 3 to 5 years whether that is the case at Spurs.

I think the next 2 windows will tell you. THe summer window was fine, and if Sarr/Gil progress could turn out to be excellent - need to continue like that

I do find it funny when fans point out that paratici overspent on players while at juve. Yes he did, it was the whole point and why he and agnelli are under criminal investigation.

Swiss ramble pointed out that juve made €531 profit on player sales (gross not net) in 5 years. That dropped to €31m this year. The guy knows how to do a deal even if it's shady.

Hopefully we can focus those dealing into success on the pitch.

Turn 'the winds from the north' (how Italian football refers to Juve corruption) into 'the winds from north London'.

Lower teams even got found throwing games to lubricate incoming transfers from Juve under Moggi
