Dempsey

Re: Dempsey Sold Official

Always appreciated his balls and determination, not to mention a few very very important tap ins. We say the Old Trafford goal was excellent, the one at home to Utd was equally important in terms of team vibe IMHO...good luck Clint.

Thanks for the important goals Clint. It never quite worked out, but you did a decent job. I wanted to love you when you joined, but I only ended up liking you. If could've been so much more.

Agreed. Not the most skilful player but Dempsey had a knack for being in the right place at the right time and provided me with one of the highlights of last season when he became the first Spurs player to score a winning goal in a league game at Old Trafford since Lineker in 1989 =D> Perhaps he would have had more impact during a 2nd season but hopefully Siggy and Holtby will come on leaps and bounds instead.

Re: Dempsey Sold Official

I will say that it wasn't clear whether he meant the signings we've already made or future signings.

Re: Dempsey Sold Official

the problem is, we have needed someone who can do that, play a part, for a long time.

Scrappy goals count just as much as spectacular.

I assume this is Deuce's ask, not us pushing or needing the money

Siggy will be that player imo

Re: Dempsey Sold Official

hopefully Townsend and Sigurdsson are planned to be more involved in the squad this season, meaning that Dempsey would be getting a lot less games than last season. can see him happy to move on if that was the case.

it always struck me as a quick fix transfer last summer this one - i seem to recall an interview with VdV where he said that early in the window the club said he was to be rotated/in competition with Sigurdsson (who the club initially rated very highly) but after a few weeks of pre season when it became apparent he wasn't quite up to that level of involvement the club tried to get VdV to stick around (but by that time he was already in advanced talks with Hamburg and set on the move) after VdV leaves Dempsey is brought in - i very much doubt he was a long term target and was just an opportunistic signing as all the stuff going on at Fulham made the deal appealing with his value having dropped. was always likely to be replaced further down the line and with Bale Lennon Chadli Townsend and Sigurdsson all availbal now in the roles he would have played it makes it a no brainier to move him on.

thanks for the goals and good luck in the MLS Deuce

this is pretty cool - good luck for him - think we will miss his goals.

Re: Dempsey Sold Official

I'm happy for him, it must be a dream come true to end your career in your home country and America is a fantastic country and 1 of the best Cities in the world. Good luck to him.

Will always remember the 2 goals against united.

Re: Dempsey Sold Official

Grant Wahl has written an incredibly long-winded piece on how it all went down: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/soccer/news/20130805/clint-dempsey-seattle-sounders-mls/

— The move was two weeks in the works as Sounders officials learned of the possibility July 18.
— Owner Joe Roth has wanted Dempsey for a while, but the team was frequently told “no chance.”
— Dempsey was interested in playing for Seattle, Los Angeles and Toronto. Though Toronto agreed it was best an American team got the USMNT captain and the Galaxy is set to make Omar Gonzalez its third DP.
— The $9 million transfer fee was paid by the league (though Wahl notes that an MLS official disputes that characterization).
— Dempsey’s salary over a three-and-a-half year contract is $24 million total, $6.86 million per year. More than David Beckham’s previous record of $6.5 million (though Wahl notes Beckham earned a royalty off ticket and jersey sales).
— Dempsey is allowed to go on one offseason loan during the span of the contract, and it is expected to come after this season to stay sharp for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
— Dempsey was sneaked off the plane on the tarmac Thursday night upon arriving in Seattle, so that’s how he avoided the fans looking for him at the airport.
— Some executives around the league weren’t exactly pleased with how the whole process went.

Re: Dempsey Sold Official

Clint Dempsey can return on loan to Tottenham or any other Premier League club in the winter as part of a contract which will earn him more than David Beckham banked during his stay in Major League Soccer.

The United States international has moved from Spurs to Seattle Sounders in a £5.8million deal after signing a three-and-a-half year contract last week.

Dempsey has a clause in his contract allowing him to go out on loan when the MLS season finishes in November and he could return to Spurs, although Everton are believed to retain an interest in the Texan.

Spurs may be keen to take him back as manager Andre Villas-Boas admitted it was a difficult decision to let him leave because of his versatility and popularity with both staff and team-mates.

The 30-year-old, who scored 12 times during his one-season stay at White Hart Lane, will earn an annual salary of £5.2m which tips the pay handed to Beckham when he joined LA Galaxy, New York Red Bull striker Thierry Henry and other European stars who have crossed the Atlantic to ply their trade.

The reason the former Fulham player has been so richly rewarded is that he is a top-flight performer currently in his prime.

Seattle play in front of regular 40,000 crowds and are funded by an ownership group including Hollywood producer and director Joe Roth, who Is responsible for Alice In Wonderland and Snow White and the Huntsmen and television hit Anger Management.

What dates are we playing United next season?

There is actually a clever reason behind Gallas wearing the 10 shirt at Scumnal. The number 10 shirt had been vacated by Bergkamp, and by giving Gallas, a defender, that shirt it removed the burden of whoever had to follow Bergkamp in wearing that shirt.
