Dejan Kulusevski

I think that we'll be signing a specialist for the role and it is probably our top priority for this window

Certainly hope so. More curious about this link more than anything. Seems like we want a striker/forward, in part as an option to Kane. Is he that player?

Not so far in his career.

I think that the main appeal of him in January is that he can cover a few positions where we are short but could have a role with us beyond this season. I don't think that he has ever played RWB, I'd be surprised if that was what we had in mind.

When I've seen him its seemed like his most natural position is right sided midfielder in a 4-3-3, as he's not really a winger and not really a goal scorer, but has a good engine and physically strong. I dont see him in Moura's role personally, and think that would hamper our already inadequate ability to break down tight defences

My guess is that he is a stop gap because the long term striker targets aren't available in January. Longer term he is probably competing with Moura or playing the role Dele played against Liverpool, if we switch to a 3-5-2.

Age, talent, versatility. If he's a stop gap for that particular role that's about as good as it gets with a stop gap.

I think this is right. Personally, I am not sure what short-term benefit he’d bring versus actually getting who we want? YouTube is unforgiving, but much of his work suggest a reel that has Dembeleisms about it yet threatens flattery and deception. I am not convinced.

This may be overstating a point, and my knowledge of Kulusevski himself is very limited.

If Conte wants to move in a midfield three direction we really lack options. Alli is the only one even showing signs of being able to play that more attacking box to box role. Maybe Lo Celso can, but so far he hasn't even been able to stay fit enough to see if he can.

If Kulusevski is even competent and functional at that role at our level, and in other roles being mentioned he would give us a lot more options and tactical flexibility in the short term with the obvious chance of improving in the future.

In terms of a short term fix to give us an immediately stronger starting 11, probably not as much?

Therein lies the issue. I agree with you FWIW.

I think the "need" for a top class, straight into the starting 11, improve us by just being an awesome player type signing gets overstated. That would obviously be great, I really hope we find one or two of those signings this window, but it may not be easy.

Giving a manager like Conte more options, players that suit his system even though not a fantastic player per se is also a very good way of improving our chances this season. It should be seen as a viable and good alternative or perhaps supplement to the fantastic player we're all hoping for.

Particularly if the players currently getting limited game time continue to be inconsistent at best it wouldn't take that much for someone to make a difference even if most of the time mainly an option.

Don't know if Kulusevski is that player mind.

Seen a fair bit of him. His most frequent position is where Dele lined up against Southampton (essentially Moura’s usual slot) coming from the right (more attack than midfield). He likes to roam though and can run in behind.

Go back a year and his numbers off the back of a loan season at Parma were great. 19 goal involvements is 36 games in Serie A. He’s a clever player also, seems to have the instinct to be right in there when chances fall and has spells in games where everything goes through him. He’s also physically strong and well built, certainly wouldn’t worry about that side.

For Sweden in the Euros he was injured in the early games but played a bit more central when he did come on. He can pick a pass etc from there.

At 21, versatile and with Conte and Paratici knowing him well, I’d say he was far from a stop gap and would be someone both of those would be looking to get in long term.

Put it this way, if you had him playing in that Southampton game in Dele’s position it would be chalk and cheese between the performances you’d see - and I say that as a Dele fan.

I think that RWB is the only position where we are likely to bring in a starter in January. I think that the other positions we will be looking to strengthening are where we only have one player suited at the moment (LCB and CF).

You're probably right, but more creativity either from CM or Moura's role is badly lacking but not obvious that someone is coming in in those positions

When I said stopgap, I meant as potential cover at CF if we are unable to bring in our primary targets there. I think that one of the reasons this transfer makes sense is that he can cover a few positions this season but still has a role beyond that

I've only seen this guy a couple of times and haven't been impressed. But then again, if we can get some sort of value for someone like Lo Celso at this point, maybe we should take it.

If this were true, it would be a bit disappointing to see Tanganga leave (unless we're just loaning him, which would be good), however at RCB we have Romero as first choice and then Tanganga and Sanchez, and possible even Emerson, at back-up....but we only need one deputy for Romero. I'd rather see us sell Sanchez however evolving the squad it the priority

Sanchez has been a mainstay under Conte just as he was before Conte was here, and is obviously rated higher - there is nothing to suggest Japhet is going to make it here and he needs to put in better performances than the one against Chelsea to prove otherwise. The only time he has got any real game time was at right back which he clearly isn’t, and the likelihood is we will end up signing another CB at least in the summer to put him further down the pecking order. Anyway, I really wouldn’t trust that source quoted, they trot out way too many stories on a daily basis to be considered reliable…..

Agree that source probably isnt reliable, however we have been linked with this chap consistently enough that it might not be just regurgitating previous stories

Tanganga is a lot younger and I'd say has greater potential. Sanchez has had a couple decent games recently, after a poor couple seasons. Tanganga isnt a wingback, so its him or Sanchez as back-up to Romero IMO. I dont think we need both

We will need another CB soon, but that's more likely to be a left sided CB to compete with Davies

A lot younger? Japhet is 23 in a couple of months, Sanchez is 25 which is still quite young in CB terms. Japhet has barely played top level football and is almost 23, where as Sanchez has been around for a lot longer and has naturally gone through peaks and troughs. It is easier to look better when you barely play, as opposed to playing from a young age week in week out season in season out like Sanchez has. There’s a reason why managers keep picking Sanchez ahead of him…..

2 year 9 months difference - one is 23 in march, the other 26 in June. I don't see Sanchez is the right fit in a wide CB position in a back 3 - a back 4 would be better for him. It might be that neither are the answer and we need to sell both, and then buy a different option for the RCB position (or maybe Emerson could fill it)

If this guy was what we need (which is top drawer players) why the hell would juve be intrigued by £15m plus tanganga.

If this guy was the level we needed I would expect juve to lol at that offer.

Yet again the chains imposed by our elderly probably soon to be senile owner impact what we can do.
