I'd argue at the moment that Lennon is twice the player Bale is. He knows his role and sticks to it and because of this constantly causes havoc down the right side. Bale just goes through the middle and loses it now. He was worthless yesterday.

Well i do not think he will get in front of either Benny or Naughton as our LB so he may have to hope our new manager gives him a few games at LW.
thought Naughton was primarily cover for RB?
and as for Rose he is more apt to get forward attacking players with pace than Benny staying around the same mark and passing from a less forward position. Its exactly what we need when Bale is doing poo-all in the middle.

Why would anyone want right footed left back cover? Yeah, Naughton can play there, but why take away the attacking threat?

He's done fine, and he has time to improve - too early to judge so definitively, but he seems OK and should have had more chances IMO

Personally I don't think he'll be good enough, but it's definitely worth loaning him out to see how much he can develop. We need a new LB for the squad in my opinion. Unless Naughton can provide that.

I have a mate who is a season ticket holder at Norwich and he seems to think that they will try and take him on full time, however if he comes back he will be a better FB then Rose.
I actually think completely the opposite. I watched him quite often when we had a reserve team, he played regularly at left midfield and was unbelievably poor. That could have been down to a number of factors like the mish mash of standards, attitudes and work rate within reserve team football.
However, he has looked reasonably solid at left back when I have watched him. I think apart from his height which is a concern, he has all the attributes required to be a decent full back. He seems to me very comfortable coming onto the play, seeing whats in front of him and starting play from deep as opposed from picking the ball up already under pressure, further up the pitch.
He has come into the side at Left back during the business end of the season in 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 and I actually don't recall him having a bad game in that period of games which might be around 9 or 10 fixtures. In fact, I was at The Etihad last season where he started and looked a little shaky for the first 15 mins. After that he was actually one of the best players on the pitch and looked very comfortable up against Silva in particular.
Not sure if he will really make it here as anything other than a squad player but I think he is a decent option at Left Back but would never play him as Left Midfielder/Winger.
DANNY ROSE is desperate to turn his loan at Sunderland from Tottenham into a permanent move.
The versatile midfielder, 22, is currently at the Stadium of Light on a season-long deal and made his debut in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool at the weekend.
He said: “If there was a chance that I could move here permanently, I’d snatch it with both hands.
“Nothing has been said of that kind. I’m just here on loan for the season and anything after that would be a bonus.
“The gaffer just asked me to come here on loan and said I’d play more games here than I would at Spurs which is right.
“I’ve just got to take it game by game and see where it takes me.
“I had interest from a couple of clubs, but once I saw the signings that Sunderland had made, it was a no-brainer and with being closer to my family as well, that helps.
“Adam Johnson has come from Emirates Marketing Project. He could have gone to a host of Premier League clubs, but he came here.
“Louis Saha I was with last season and they paid big money for Steven Fletcher. It just shows Sunderland’s intent for the season.”

Sunderland will try to sign Rose in January
MARTIN O'Neill will attempt to sign Danny Rose on a permanent basis next month, and is confident the England Under-21 international wants to remain at the Stadium of Light.
Rose moved to Sunderland on a season-long loan from Tottenham in the summer and has consistently been the club's best performer in the opening four months of the season.
He caught the eye again in Saturday's 3-1 defeat to Chelsea, and with the transfer window due to reopen at the turn of the year, O'Neill is ready to make a formal approach to Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas in an attempt to turn the 22-year-old's temporary switch into a permanent transfer.
“There is that possibility,” said the Sunderland boss, who watched his side slip into the bottom three for the first time this season as they slumped to their third Premier League home defeat of the campaign. “He wants to remain at the football club and that is encouraging.
“If he went back to Tottenham, particularly with (Benoit) Assou-Ekotto getting fit again, the chances are he wouldn't play that often, so it's certainly worth a look at anyway.
“He would love to stay here. He's got on terrifically well with everyone. The players have taken to him, everybody has taken to him. Most importantly, the crowd have taken to him and rightly so because he has been absolutely outstanding.
“I always felt he had that potential, but he's playing remarkably well. He's been really excellent for us and he's improving as well.”
Quite what Tottenham's response will be is difficult to gauge, although Villas-Boas has shown little desire to discuss Rose's performances in public and appears to be plotting his own club's future without the Doncaster-born defender as part of the equation.
Negotiations with Tottenham are invariably fraught, and once Spurs chairman Daniel Levy becomes involved, it is unlikely that Black Cats officials will be able to strike a deal on the cheap.
However, O'Neill is clearly determined to recruit Rose permanently, and with Ellis Short expected to make funds available next month in an attempt to address Sunderland's perilous position close to the foot of the table, there is a strong chance of a transfer being agreed.
Rose has performed superbly at left-back all season, and when he was switched to the heart of midfield for the final quarter of Saturday's game, it was telling that he instantly became his side's most effective midfielder.
“I don't really want to shout it out because we want to try to keep him at the football club, but Danny has been splendid ever since he arrived,” said O'Neill. “As his fitness improves moving forward, you feel as though he is very capable of playing in that (midfield) position.
“We wanted to try him there beforehand, but he's been so decent at left-back that I didn't want to change him until he gets the requisite amount of fitness that you probably need to play in midfield. But he was excellent when he moved there.”
Rose's display was a rare bright point as Sunderland tumbled into the relegation zone on Saturday, with Fernando Torres' first-half double and a second-half strike from Juan Mata condemning the Wearsiders to their third defeat in the last four home matches.
Adam Johnson was the only other home player to really do themselves justice, with his second-half strike capping a bright display that hinted at a welcome return of confidence.
“I felt there were signs out there that Adam is coming back to his best,” said O'Neill. “He was having a go at players, taking on Ashley Cole at times, and that goal will give him a boost as well and that is important.

Have watched Sunderland a few times this season as well and every time he's been of their best players although it doesn't say much. He's had some mixed performances for Spurs, but he's still young and he's got some of the most vital attributes for a left back, pace, aggression and decent technique. With the experience of a full season, I think he'll be able to compete with BAE next season. Selling him for anything less than 5M would be a mistake IMO.
