Club training centres

What with Spurs Lodge in Chigwell replaced by our state of the art Enfield Training Centre back in 2012, thought it might be an idea to have a thread looking at how it compares to other clubs' training facilities...

The new architecturally designed Tottenham Hotspur Training Centre has been built on 77 acres and is located on Hotspur Way, Enfield. It is the home of the Club's First Team and Academy and is recognised as one of the best in Europe.

The state-of-the-art facility - which includes a covered artificial pitch, world-class player preparation areas, pool and hydrotherapy complex, altitude room, large-scale gymnasium and specialist sports rehabilitation suites - will support the Club's ambitions to attract, develop and retain the highest quality talent.

There are 15 grass pitches across the site including four dedicated solely for First Team Training and one and a half artificial outdoor pitches with floodlighting. The First Team Match pitch is built to exactly the same specification as the pitch at White Hart Lane.

ARSEnal are apparently looking to upgrade their Colney training centre, opened in 1999 it currently has 10 full size pitches (2 with undersoil heating) and covers 143 acres...

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...rsenals-training-centre-at-London-Colney.html
Arsene Wenger is personally overseeing plans for a major upgrade to Arsenal’s training centre and is also interested in recruiting the head fitness coach of the Germany national team to his backroom staff.
Arsenal moved to their London Colney base in 1999, with Wenger designing the facility to a specification that made it widely regarded as the very best in the Premier League. Chelsea, Emirates Marketing Project, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have since built even more modern training centres and, amid the backdrop this season of the worst injury record in the Premier League, Arsenal are preparing to seek planning permission on projects that, over the next three years, will run into the millions of pounds.
The club have already begun working with architects on a new athletic development centre within the Colney base, as well as additional space for offices and analysis. A new medical centre was completed at Colney in October 2011 and, at the club’s Hale End Youth Academy, construction work will take place over the next year on new medical and educational facilities, as well as a new gym.

Chelsea’ 140 acre Cobham training centre opened in 2007 and has 17 full sized pitches (3 with undersoil heating)

Our new one that is opening very soon:

  • £200m investment over 80 acres
  • 16 training pitches
  • 7000 seater stadium for youth/reserve/ladies games (anticipating for when we finally get 7000 total fans)
  • Pedestrian bridge over very busy junction to area near entrance to the Etihad Campus

  • Built a new sixth form college, and donated £3 million to local leisure facilities

All of this in conjunction with more community investments, like a £1bn renovation and construction to homes in the local area (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-27992743).

Men will do anything to circumvent laws and calls of corruption and who am I to judge if it helps them sleep well in the knowledge that they are doing it for the brand I mean community.

Everton’s 57 acre Finch Farm which opened in 2007.

Roberto Martinez wants it upgraded to keep up with the times though...

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/mar/27/roberto-martinez-everton-rebuild-training-round
Martínez insists Finch Farm, with 10 full-size grass pitches, one full-size synthetic pitch, an indoor pitch and three smaller pitches, does not meet his requirements for the club. "Every year you need to improve," he added.

"We need bedrooms for the first team and the option to get digs for the young players to stay on site as well. We are two pitches short and we need to have a full-size indoor facility for all the age groups. The facilities here are terrific but the demands every season change and you need to be up to date.

"We have different projects and the cost depends on how much we are going to go into it. They are different projects – one is the bedrooms, one is the new pitches, one is for the youth to have digs. There are different projects that we can do over the next 24 months."

Asked why he wants players sleeping at Finch Farm, Martínez said: "Because you can work. Young players especially, any player under 24, needs to have the right balance of training and recovery. The moment you lose a player to injury and he has to go home to recover and come back, it makes it impossible to get two sessions in. You have to have that base to work if you want to invest in youngsters.

"The 10,000 hours rule [the supposed time required to become expert in any field] is impossible but if you can get a player doing double of what they do the benefits are incredible. Even before games you have to go to a hotel. You don't create that environment of feeling at home. It is now a must to have bedrooms. Every first-team player should have a bedroom."

our training centre will look old hat in 5-10 years time :) come on Levy, time to build some bedrooms!!

Had the pleasure of walking around twice. Omg the showers are amazing! Haven't had one but didn't need to!

Rightly recognised by opposing fans pals of mine who have also visited as the best in the PL.

I guess you are talking about our training ground, right?

Brighton have a community pitch at their new training ground it is at the back of the ground and the players have to change in a hut.

That's an impressive new training facility that Brighton & Hove have built. I see that it was awarded Category One status so their U21 team gets to compete against Premier League opposition, albeit only dross like ARSEnal.

  • Construction cost of £30m
  • Five pitches for the first-team squad
  • Two are exact replicas of the pitch at Brighton's Amex Stadium
  • Seven pitches for the academy
  • One indoor pitch and one community pitch

I can not let on to much but I know a few people at Brighton including someone who actually sits on the first team bench every week. Also know people in the academy there. We are playing Brighton on the 28th of January down there and I am hoping for a visitor pass for the day.

They have copied Southampton a lot even to the extent where they have permission to have a centre of excellence in Tonbridge which is considered an extension of the training ground, they got this because of the sea stopping them of having a 4 sided catchment area. It has massively ****ed of a certain south London club.

Youth football is so competitive just getting someone to sign for you is a big deal. The junior sides at Brighton are made up of players from all over sussex and mini buses bring them in from Crawley, Chichester and Eastbourne each day just to train there.

Ought to add that Brighton have used St Georges park twice this season when they have two away games up north it was seen as the best way to help the new manager get the players used to his system.

Leicester City have applied for planning permission to install CCTV at their training ground to help assess the players.

LvG had a system installed at Carrington in the summer, not sure how widespread the use of such cameras is by clubs though...

Sleeping pods seem to be all that's required for players to get some rest between training sessions. I'm surprised that AVB didn't have some installed at our training ground, considering how much time he spent in his pod at Cobham!
