It's a bit weird actually having a look. There's no Modric or Kaka, who were both winners. So I've no idea how they selected those players.

I've gone fairly offensive, but I depend upon Beckenbauer sweeping up anyone managing to actually get the ball inside our half.
    Buffon
Cafu - Beckenbauer- Ramos - Maldini
    Iniesta - Pirlo - Maradona
    Messi - Ronaldo - Ronaldo

I’ll be honest, my team would batter any other team mentioned in this thread.

None of your attacking players would get past Ledley, so it might be difficult.

Banks, although from what I've read about Yashin it could be him.

There are so many tough choices in the back four, especially centre-back. My only certainty was Beckenbauer, but can't argue against this quartet.

The stand out names in defensive midifield are Pirlo and Xavi but is that a defensive midfield. Perhaps Matthäus with one of them or even Platini.

The choice for attacking midfield is absurd. You could make a choice for the front four from that list, say four from Di Stefano, Maradona, Pelé, Puskas and Zidane, all of whom get considered in best player ever lists. How can either of Pele or Maradona be omitted, especially as they don't play the same position?

The front three pick themselves. I couldn't leave out Messi, Ronaldo (winking type) or Cruyff, three of my six candidates for best player ever.

Which leaves me with the following XI after cheating:

    Banks
    Cafu, Baresi, Beckenbauer, Maldini
    Matthäus
    Messi, Pele, Maradona, Ronaldo
    Cruyff
