I question putting together a near 100m package for a player based really on what he was rather than knowing what he is now, the question marks exist there and for me that money is hugely more beneficial in the short, medium and long term.

For me this is where Liverpool done so well, yes they spent well but they got the right players for the system Klopp wanted and the reason people like Henderson although there before highlight that its so important to have that. A move for Bale would be an expensive move backwards based on whats actually needed.

What if the package was a 15m season long one, with an option which we would only invoke of the player proved himself?

Yeh that would be better than a perm, end of the day I think paying top money for a explosion player deep into 33/34 is a mistake.

The fact that Bale hasn't had a great deal of football the past two seasons isn't necessarily a bad thing. Being a low mileage unit these past two seasons means he hasn't had the wear and tear that other players his age have endured. It's not like this current Spurs squad are going to be leaning on him either, like when he first played for Spurs. He's the sort of player who would probably understand and accept a bit of rotation as long as he's making regular appearances, whether starting or off the bench.

I've no doubt he's stayed fit throughout. I also have no doubt that coming to Spurs with the fantastic training centre would only benefit him further in improving and sustaining his fitness and durability. If he can bring the dead ball skills he showed previously, that alone would be a crucial addition. But he's still got a very decent set of wheels, a great mind for the game and a fine surrounding cast to give him a great chance of finding success.

He's had a phenomenal run at the very peak of the game and displayed amazing skills and abilities. He brings that know-how of winning games in crucial moments, of winning titles and trophies, something Spurs need more of. Give him the resources and welcoming environment Spurs can offer along with the motivation to show that Real and the sceptics were wrong and it's hard to see where this potential acquisition is anything but a good thing.

We need another superstar upfront with Son and Kane. Everybody has a great three upfront.

Well, for those who like to hope, a tantalising (though tempered ITK update for a fella called Trix:

"Bale. Quite simple really(although not simple at all). Good news is that the deal is there to be done, and all 3 parties are happy for it to happen.

The problem is it's still an unprecedented amount of money for DL. As I've said recently Levy likes to balance the books in as many ways as he can, and with this it just isn't possible. This is a huge gamble financially in a time where money is at its most uncertain. On the plus side it's been Levy all the way driving this, and he must have known from the outset that is the case, and he's pursued it anyway. That gives me hope he will pull the trigger.

It's now a case imo of heart or head, for DL. Can he justify the obscene expenditure in uncertain times, I mean he's not pushed the boat out when we've had spare cash, so will he do it now when we don't.

I think right now this could go either way and if we decide to do it, it will happen quickly.

I will say it's a deal just for us. Should we not do it, other clubs will not get the same terms(as things stand) so not as easy to get gazumped at this point in time.

JJ spot on all down to Levy, but knowing a lot of the financials I could totally understand if we don't get this over the line."

Oh I must confess I do miss seeing these:D So basically amongst that paragraph of waffle, all we can take that 1) it’s down to the chairman if we sign the player 2) It could go either way
You really have to be ‘ITK’ to figure that out.

ITK hasn’t developed at all over the past ten years has it....

Yep. Well, it's a little more than that. There's the belief that SPurs, Bale and Real are all okay in principle with a move. And also that it's on terms just for Spurs.

Stepping back, it's a tricky decision for Levy if this is true. Do we really financially expose ourselves for this deal, at a time when we are in such an uncertain place? The manager and team are in a place where we may well need a positive hit like Bale to have an immediate impact on the team to get us back near the top, give us extra chance of winning something now. In a year or two, the manager and some of these players won't be here if we don't kick on. So will Bale allow us to prevent that

I was ITK the other week and posted on here alone. Admittedly it was about a player signing for Leicester and It was common knowledge later that day. I should have been more cryptic and lied basically

Perhaps Amazon will pay for a 2nd Series of All or Nothing as a contribution to us signing Bale. Make a more interesting series.

And do we think the deal available to us is the one reported a few days ago, which is a 1 year loan and we pay half the €600k per week wages, which is roughly £272k. Then at the end of the loan we have an option (which we dont have to take) of buying him for €25m.

What we dont know on that deal is if there is a loan fee for that first season. Also Its hard to see us then buying him after season one, as not only is it €25m but also we’d need to pay all of his wages from that point, and I doubt he’d drop down to only getting what we paid him for the first season.

But that first year on loan doesnt seem too financially risky, especially if we get people like rose and foyth of the wage bill. They must be on at least £100k a week between them.

Its obvious that Levy needs a new source of revenue to fund bale. Perhaps the increasing presence of Amazon (documentary then store after signing the top US female footballer) might be a clue....

I don't think it is financially responsible for us to sign Bale. Appreciate the nostalgia surrounding this but if we are willing to even pay half his wages - I would much prefer going after someone else.

This is ridiculous. Bale has less dribbling than Antonio?

he’s going to have to drop down for his next contract anyway, that’s happening, wherever he goes

the decision he has to make is between coming back to us and working with Jose in an awesome squad, or taking a bit more money elsewhere and being surrounded by clams
