I think what we do know is that Levy will have his walk-away position and won't overpay! Looking at some rough numbers:

Bale has 2.5 years left on a £500k contract, so thats around £65m cost for Real! If they're not going to play him much then they could I guess take the view that the cost/benefit doesnt stack up

If you assume that Bale won't take a pay-cut and we wouldnt pay him more than we pay Kane, which I think is £200k per week, then Real would need to foot £300k per week so £39m over 2.5 years so that Bale isnt out of pocket

Then there's a fee - lets assume we'd be willing to pay £20m, then Real would have the choices:
    - Keep Bale and pay £65m in wages....and obviously get the benefit of his contribution; or
    - Pay £19m and not have him (£19m being £39m wage shortfall to be made up minus the fee received)

Thats a chunky financial difference....but comes down to how much they'll play him

    I'm sure this won't happen
I don't think I even want this to happen (sullies the memories of his first time here)
But even so, a little bit of man wee came out at the thought of it

Bale probably not that keen to retrace his steps backwards + Levy and purse strings = never gonna happen.

The mass denial from every football journo on twitter has begun, there's a pattern with this crap.

Can Bale buy out his contract? Has anyone done that yet?

True. But then Madrid blocked a deal with a Chinese club this summer that would have seen them pay all of his wages so I'm not really sure what their priorities are with him.

I honestly think there was/is scope for a deal here, but at this stage of the window it looks a little far-fetched sadly.

He's the best player in the world we can sign. Lamela is already here and Zlatan has moved already ;).

We are the best club he could play for, why wouldn't he take a pay cut to come home and play under the most successful manager in the game in the best stadium in the world?

My question isn't why would it happen, it's why would it not?

Bale is not coming. I dont think we'd get back the same player we sold anyway. Does he still have any hunger or goals in the game?

Of course we wouldn't. But that doesn't automatically mean it isn't worth pursuing.

You just have to watch him play for Wales. A motivated Bale remains a glorious thing.

If Bale fancies Spurs and Mourinho, we should pull out all the stops to get him. Still a genuine game changer. As galeforce says, he's the best player with a chance of being available to us.
