Its been a while since I lived there for a year so I am probably out of date, but the Vondelpark is worth a visit and Dam Square was always a lively place.

I'm living in Watergrafsmeer near de Pijp. Area looks ok, de Pijp looks pretty decent actually.
Its just so expensive here. I'm finding the prices fairly prohibitive.
