An upgrade on Dembele is a player that passes forward and not just sideways and backwards. Its ok beating your man but whats the point if you just turn around and pass it back again?

A more interesting form of hold up play that erodes opponents confidence. I love it.

To be fair, though, if you beat your man and then pass it sideways, you've still advanced the ball - you've carried it further than it was when it first reached you.

Still, I agree. We haven't had a central midfield distributor since Modric. Even Winks has been more of a rhythmic, tempo-setting midfielder that keeps the ball moving than a genuine deep-lying playmaker.

    We could do with one.

Also, with regard to Rabiot, I wonder if we now have a bigger chance than we did before today. Rabiot exiled himself from the French national team before the WC because he threw a strop about not being guaranteed a spot on the final squad.

Well, that French national team has now won the World Cup without him. And if he wants to get back in when they're on a high, he's going to have to do some major ass-kissing.

One of the people he'll have to convince will be one Hugo Lloris, captain of the national team. Who just so happens to play at Spurs. :)

(Btw, the same logic can also apply to Martial - you want to get into the World Cup-winning French side, impressing at a club which has the national team captain in it isn't a bad idea. )

I think he would be a great signing for us in central midfield and he is available

GHod I hope that is the knock on effect. Keep Eriksen and dodge a guy who, for all his talent, sounds like a pratt and someone likely to fall out with Poch.

Thank fudge. If he could be this much of an ass at his hometown club, biggest club in France and also his national team, GHod knows what he would have been like here. We don't need trouble makers at the club, regardless of how good their potential may be.

Excellent news! Double whammy for us. We dodge a bullet as the guy is a real prat and it also increases the likelihood of Eriksen staying. Weyhey!!

I’d still be concerned about losing him to someone like Juve or Real Madrid but Rabiot going to Barca is good news nonetheless.

Have i missed something about Rabbit, as I thought he was more a typical CM, possible even a more defensive style one. A mix of Dier/Dembele perhaps?

But definitely not a purely-creative non-tackling off-the-front man Eriksen-type player?? So I wouldn't rule Barcelona out just yet.

Let's see they let Denis Suarez go anywhere first, then i would start worrying about there being a gap for Eriksen to fill.
