Quick note on 4th place

I hope all those slating the EL are aware of the fact our UEFA coeffiecient now might have dropped considerably in order for us to be unseeded in the playoff round and face the real possibility of being knocked out by a tough team

3rd should be an aboslute must if the cup is not an option

highly unlikely we won't be seeded. we'll have a similar coefficient to 2 years ago for next season. we were ranked 4th out of 10 in the play off draw then.

would a lot of real big sides to finish 3rd and 4th in their leagues for us to be unseeded

Fair point, but I guess I'm more interested in (what I see as) achievements in the here and now, as opposed to remembering achievements from times gone by. And, as a Spurs fan, I think that in 10 years time I might still look back on finishing 3rd, ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea, more fondly than winning the FA Cup.

You have a fair point yourself. I just feel, like a few others have said, its been far too long since we held the FA Cup aloft, and what a fitting way for Harry to leave and a superb honour for Ledley in what could be his final season

Our UEFA coefficient is higher than it was two years ago.

Going into the 2010-11 Champions League draw, we were the 30th ranked UEFA team and had a coefficient of 56.371.

And as things stand (and assuming that we qualify), going into the 2012-13 Champions League draw, we would be the 27th ranked UEFA team and would have a coefficient of 66.457.

i voted 3rd for the money and the chance to put arsenal in their place and for us to consolidate further.

but seeing that neither is still a possibilitiy, i'd be happy with either.

Although any club who is still in Europe will continue to improve their coefficient relative to us between now and the end of the season. Still, there's no cause for concern.

That said, if we hadn't had those seasons in the UEFA cup a few years back we definitely wouldn't have been seeded last time...

Both. If we finish 3rd this season, above the scum then this may begin an era for us. We all know the year we last finished above Arsenal and if we beat them to 3rd this year, they'll have to remember that 2012 marked the beginning of an era

It depends.

If finishing 3rd proves to be the catalyst for our recent improvement and growth as a club to continue, then 3rd it is. No one is saying the FA Cup is not worth winning.....but winning it, and coming 5th can in no way be better for us than coming 3rd, and the basis for improvement that comes with it.

It was in response to the what would matter more in 20yrs question.

As I said, no one is saying its not worth winning. But at the expense of 3rd place after the season we've has? No way.

Do you think the FA Cup would compensate for the scale of the capitulation we would have to endure to finish 4th or below. You could wave goodbye to the likes of Modric thats for sure.

modric and bale will inevitably leave within the next year or 2 whatever we do. we cannot possibly offer them the money and potential medals they might get elsewhere.

3rd would be a tremendous achievement but 4th and the cup i'd take all day long. it's a no brainer

like i say i couldn't care less what fans of other clubs say. gooners could hardly have a pop at us for winning something after everyone has constantly taken the tinkle out of their 7 year drought.
