From the late '80s to early 2000s, Bob was a legend in Canada, and later in the States, with his Super Dave Osborne shows. It started as a low-budget weekly comedy about a magnificently self-confident idiot of a stunt man, the very poor man's Evel Knievel. With his bumbling sidekick stunt co-ordinator Fuji and host and commentator Mike Walden, the show always featured some elaborate stunt going awry. Lots of episodes on YouTube, plus appearances on David Letterman.

Here's a nice report on his life and adventures as Super Dave:

And here's a quick episode that typifies the Super Dave humour:

Really sad about this. Saw him live years ago and he was outstanding, as he always was on The News Quiz.

Yeah. I saw him back in the 90s and have always loved him on the News Quiz and ISIHAC. I didn't even know that he was ill.

Level of alcoholism in a) Finland & b) ski-jumpers is apparently sky high. Can't replace the thrill of chucking themselves down a hill and then with the long nights.

Gazza I'd say is a good comparison. Although Nykänen was absolutely bossing it in his sport in the 80s - not that the global competition in ski jump is in anyway comparable to football - while Gazza, I feel, didn't quite fulfill his potential. They both have lived extraordinary lives though. Lets hope Gazza lasts much longer.

Created many memories for those alive at the time and, through video footage, for those who were yet to be born. One of the best goalkeepers ever.

May his family and friends find comfort in each other. May he rest in peace. His performances will be remembered for a long time to come.

I remember our Jim scoring a penalty against him when he wasnt ready, I think he wanted to put on a cap and as he turned Jim tapped it in as a laugh and ref gave it.

World class keeper without a doubt ( his save against Pele is still talked about as one of the best ever), We may have gone on and won the 70 world cup but he had to miss the game against Germany and Bonetti was at fault for a couple of the German goals.

On top of that he really was one of the nicest people i have met.
