Illaramendi

I think we need this signing (or one like it) for a multitude of reasons. He's a good player obviously and we need someone in that position, but also for morale reasons (players and fans). I know he's not top top drawer but neither are we. If we can pull this transfer off and the Berahino one I think the fans will feel a lot happier about this window and the direction we are going. I do like the approach we are taking in trusting our own youngsters but every now and then you got to throw the dog a bone.
 
He can tackle...pass. Sounds like just what we need as a DM. He hasn't played many hours
according to the stats but Real have talented squad I imagine..two other players come to mind!

He often gets brought on to shore up a match that's already won - he's never really been first choice there that I've seen.
 
16 million Euros - what's that?.... About £11.5 million?!? Seems extremely cheap for a player of that age and quality. We can also blow Sociedad out of the water with a wage offer. I guess the dangers here are:

1. That he wants to stay in Spain.
2. That Liverpool's higher wage ceiling can seal the deal for them.
3. That the player is keeping our offer (assuming we have made one) in his back pocket while waiting to see if a Champions League big boy comes in for him from England, Germany or Italy (or PSG)

I think we have definitely made a level of interest known...perhaps the boy wants to go home and doesn't want to leave Spain.
Shame really as he ticks alot of boxes for me atm as to what we need in the centre of the park.
 
the talk was that we made an offer of a one year loan with the option to buy at the end. Id say that is what put Illaramendi off wanting to join us. He wanted a permanent move somewhere

If true thats ruddy well frustrating, and will be even more frustrating if we spend north of 17-18m on Wanyama who is technically not as good as him on the ball.
