Quality. I got into Hicks when I was about 17/18 and for me he was always more of a political type figure than a comedian. He was more about making a point than making a joke. Not to dismiss any of his stand up, which was brilliant, just that he was more about the whole routine than bits joined up together with no real fluidity likie many comics.

George Carlin is one of the few equal to Hicks in my eyes in terms of what they do
 
Was it Dennis Leary he accused of stealing his set? The bit about not wanting to quit smoking because he hates non-smokers. I've never actually seen any of Leary's stand up

Another stand up I hear great stuff about it is Louis CK. Only seen his show, which is brilliant. Anyone seen a stand up by him?
 
Yeah Louis CK is good......and yes, Dennis Leary had a very similar act generally and the smoking bit was very similar.....not sure if Hicks made a direct allegation though.

Jerry Sadowitz is good as well. I love the cerebral and shock comedy as much as I appreciate the craft in doing what MacIntyre and Peter Kay do. They don;t give a fudge what internet 'purists' think anyway! Macintyre will earn £25 million this year!! BOVVERED!

Wasn't Bill Hicks once asked why he's quit smoking and he said: "to see if Dennis Leary does it" ?
 
20 years ago today Bill Hicks passed away at the age of 32. The Lenny Bruce of his generation. I'm going to a commemorative night later on for him. Hugely influential on me when I was 17/18, the outsider looking in scornfully

Makes me sad that in the twenty years since his death, what should be progress has resulted in Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow. I'll have a cigarette later on in his honour
