Cortisone Injections

Johnny nice-tits
After having had an ankle operation last October Ive been still getting pain and aching..

Saw a specialist today and he says he can still see some scar tissue and inflammation on my MRI scan

He is going to give me a cortisone injection into the area to try and sort out the issue..

Anybody else had one of these, do they work and do they hurt ??

Were you not sent to the physio for ultrasound treatment? That would have broken up the scar tissue months ago?

I had a 10 session course of physio after the operation, the ankle was fine for 9 months, its only the last 3 months its been hurting again hence the MRI, specialist appointments

i have Morton's neuroma in my foot. I had 3 lots of injections. Didnt make any difference. They said it cures 70% of cases. not for me so ill prob need an op

Just heard from the specialists secretary, ive got to have the procedure done in the operating threatre under local anasethetic as it needs done under xray ????

I've had a few cortisone injections in my ankle to reduce inflammation do to the fact that I have no cartilage left and my joint is bone on bone. The shot doesn't hurt a bit! The doctor applied a freeze spray to numb the area before injecting the steroid so I couldn't feel a thing. The shot worked wonders as I was pain free for about a year before it bothered me again, but I put it down to the fact that I can't give up playing Sunday soccer just yet. If I would have gone on with life as usual, It probably wouldn't have bothered me again. After I had my second injection a year later, I set out on strengthening the rest of my legs which helped a great deal. It still occasionally bothers me but no where near as bad as before & I haven't had to go back to the doc yet. Obviously our situations are different but I experienced good results from the shot.

As far as the shot being done under x-ray, I've had that procedure done as well, except it was in my neck. The x-ray is just used to pin point the exact location of injury, or in your case scar tissue. This way they are shooting the steroid into a specific space in the joint, not just in the joint itself. I wouldn't worry about pain as far as this one goes either. The local anesthetic will have you numb & you won't feel the needle, just pressure. Good luck!

Also, I've had the shots guided by X-ray in my neck

Hope it goes well for you mate, a few years ago my dad had a similar operation but, on his knee due to his lack of cartilage the injections seemed to help him quite alot actually but, I have seen him in pain ocassionally since but, I think he'll be having another injection soon, He also seems more mobile than he did before the procdure/treatment. He didn't really tell me too much about the actually injections at the time but, told me they don't hurt or anything, it just feels like someone pushing the (blunt) end of a pencil into wherever it gets injected

hot therapist would help ease your suffering :)

Had it done at 2pm and im back already..

Didnt hurt at all just some pressure as the injection went in, was interesting seeing the dye go round the joint and that on the xray so he could find the exact spot to inject..

Got to keep a pain diary for the next month until I see him again, if it settles right down it could be the problem sorted, if its still hurting it will mean further procedures

Doesnt appear to have worked as yet, still the same aches and pains, he did say it could take upto 2 weeks to really notice a difference
