*** OMT - Tottenham Hotspur v Chelscum ***

What as the full chant? I agree rent boy is not necessarily homophobic. You could say its inclusive

It's simply 'Chelsea rent boys, we're coming for you'

I'd always assume rent boys include those catering to ugly women too, gigolos for a want of a more street term

"Would Chelsea Gigolos we're coming for you" be anti-anyone? And would you offend because you have assumed that the population is straight and not gay. It is a minefield when trying to insult other fans these days.

That's flimflam, I am afraid. It is frequently used as a homophobic insult. I am happy to defer to Proud Lilywhites on this and let them advise on what is and isn't homophobic.

It's a disgusting chant and needs to be binned.

As always, it's all about context. It might be misread as homophobic, but the fundamental intention is surely about being sex workers

It would be pretty funny if that was the response at WHL. 'We'll sing what we want...', then into that.

We have had this discussion/argument before and whilst a 'rent boy' is by definition a young male sex worker the street market has always been dominated by male customers so the term has, for many people, homosexual connections - young males selling their bodies to older men. This is where the homophobic element comes in because it is throwing that issue of homosexuality as an insult.

Females, especially historically, rarely picked up sex workers off the street, particularly for their own safety and due to societal norms and restrictions I guess, so to try and salvage the use of the term by comparing it to escorts and gigolos is somewhat disingenuous in my opinion.

The insult is the homophobic slur element and it is rightly being called out as such - even if the majority of people using it don't have that intention.

The Club is extremely disappointed by homophobic chanting from sections of our support at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

We work closely with our LGBTQ+ fan group Proud Lilywhites to create a welcoming and inclusive environment at our Club and are proud to display the Progress Flag in our stadium on matchdays.

No one should suffer discrimination because of their sexual orientation and/or their gender identity, and we urge supporters not to use this chant.

Homophobic chanting at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium should be reported by texting HPH and location details to 07537 404821. At other stadia, it should be reported to the nearest steward or via the home club’s reporting number.

There is no place for discrimination at Tottenham Hotspur.

Rentboy chant presumably. You could hear it on TV at times.
Correct. It was very loud inside.

So slander of women sex workers is okay, but not blokes, when its related to being gay. Got it. :)

I do agree overall. Its not a funny chant. Its not clever, and it has a tangential relation to homophobia. But it is slight. No one chanting it is anti-gay. But I respect those who assert themselves because of far more serious phobia and discrimination.

It's a term I used on here before not really thinking about it. It was just something bricky to say about Chelsea. Then I read someone on here saying it was homophobic and I tend to agree which is why I stopped using it.

Think the club is probably right on this one.

It's always disappointing seeing people tying themselves up in knots to excuse bigotry. If the club's LGBTQ+ fan group are telling you about their concerns about the chant and asking fans to stop, who are you to argue?

We need to get our house in order on this. This chant belongs in the dustbin of history.

Agree on all of this
Son lost the ball 6 times… and had 1 unsuccessful touch
Kane was 4 times…
Then it was Davies, Hojberg and moura all on 2

some of that is poor passing to these players but for me we have no alternative so we have to accept that right now son can’t control a bag of sand, or Kane will drop deep as he has to get some of the ball

You have nailed it yet again @Bedfordspurs . Don't know why others even need to consider it. Mourinho identified we needed a top centre forward in his first window. What happened? We bought Bergwyn. We needed a top centre forward then and we most certainly need one now.

The hold up figures you quite above amply demonstrate this . As does not a single goal from open play in our last three games - and one of those was against a 10 man Soton team and another against probable relegation fodder.

Simply not good enough.

It's actually the chanting against Brighton (the 'does your boyfriend know you're out' etc.) that I see as much more problematic.
I went to Palace v Brighton once when the Brighton chairman was called dingdong Knight
The chant of dingdong Knight every night, dingdong Night, dingdong Night, dingdong Night every night made me chuckle
