Pierre-Emile Højbjerg

Showed a real good range of passing vs Watford at haven't seen that much of before from him. Perhaps given more freedom to take risk on the ball than he had before.

Thought he slowed things down a few times when more passing tempo was needed, but he wasn't the only one doing that and I hope more tempo from us as a team and Hojbjerg will come with time.

On the one hand, Skipp could learn a lot from PEH and hopefully improve and progress a bit, but on the other, we may need someone else to be partnering PEH as our preferred line up. Dele has been ok so far, capable of starting games… unless Nuno is fine with waiting for Pape Sarr next season.

He is still a kid and its all about him learning to play on a regular basis at this level. He will get better the more he plays and improve as a player.

there was some great stuff there, but look how much time Watford gave him to pick and make a pass
Agreed that it doesn't help us much against opposition that will press higher and with more aggression.

We'll face low blocks quite a bit though, if Hojbjerg can deliver performances like that (or better?) in those situations it's really valuable for those games/phases. It's been a problem area for years and a really difficult thing to fix. Getting better at that is great.

If one player deserves some slack it’s him

he was very good last year
Played non stop
The Christian incident in the summer

Actually, he's more effective higher up. He isn't really a DM, but more of a disruptor and agitator, a bit like Kante. He needs a DM with him. That's the role he plays for the national team, with Delaney playing DM. Works much better, as Højbjerg lacks a bit of positional awareness.
I agree

Lacks a bit? it was real poor yesterday.

This.

@Grays_1890 was his performances recently what you feared when we bought him?

Haha yeh, TBH his positional sense is terrible, charges round like a loon, that Arsenal game was a shocker, he is much better when with Skipp who holds a shape.

But yeh, take his chest thumping and Viking tags and he is more Michael Brownjerg
