Probably because football was more open and was a better watch. I still remember going to the opening game of the 1966 finals and seeing Uruguay playing for a draw, I'd never seen that in an international before even N. Ireland and Wales came to Wembley to win in those days.

1990 was the worst World Cup I'd ever seen. Ireland v England was eye gougingly bad and there were a lot of games like that. I think it had the lowest goals per game of any WC until 2010. The football now, even allowing for @parklane1's valid point, is light years ahead of 1990 WC. Euro 96 I found fairly entertaining though.

Sterling is a huge problem, as he sees passing as a last resort.

He'll just keep going, head down, missing several opportunities to make the key pass until its too late, threat is over and he grudgingly taps it back to our fullback, or he loses the ball.

Sterling is bad, but Mount, Grealish, every other attacking midfielder in England think they are some kind of false 9 with no main striker in the team.

That is on Southgate, you have one of the best strikers in the world, every other attacking player has one of two fudging jobs -> pass it to Kane in a dangerous area and/or make space for him with your runs ... nothing else.

What sort of team do you think Southgate will go with on Saturday? I would start with a strong attacking team and sub players he needs for Hungarian game once they had built a decent tally. Not being disrespectful to Andorra but they are a very weak team.

I think Southgate will play Harry Kane in his preferred isolated role, with lots of tippy tappy players like Sterling dwelling on the ball and running into blind alleys on either side of him. It's the winning formula.

How Dare YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sterling is the best player of this generation, or so the media says

Matterface and Dixon was there ever a worst combination of commentators? Classic comment while view of Kane on bench "Kane not on scoresheet tonight" and fantastic analyst Sancho and Abraham impressed. Abraham looked like a bloke who won a prize of playing for England on Ant and Dec.

Nice to see the Hungarians bringing 80s terrace culture back to Wembley.
I fudging hate these ex Eastern bloc neo fascist states.
fudge them all off and they can have their own all white Nazi jamboree and leave actual football to everyone else.

How the f#ck does Sterling stay on the pitch and Grealish taken off. I think every attempt he has made tonight has not got past a red shirt.

Not surprsied Grealish looks f#cked off sat down
Oh well, he can think of what he can spend his £200k after tax on this week. Which reminds me, do they get paid weekly or monthly? What's best in everyone's views, weekly pay or monthly pay?

Southgate will see it as being loyal but he's just being loyal to the wrong player.

Brighton players were, 6 years ago paid fortnightly.

I know as I actually saw his payslip that Gordon Greer was paid £8,000 every 2 weeks as captain of then bottom of the championship Brighton.

He was very drunk and it was in his jacket that he left at the table when he went for a pee. Worst poker player going and in those days a lot of the Brighton players used to go the casino at the Marina as most had flats in the gated blocks down there.

That is a true story as well.
