The Game Is About Glory - Clusterf*ckapocalypse

milo

Jack L. Jones
Episode 31

WTF is going on with the new manager hunt? It has been the elephant in our beloved Tottenham’s room for some time now, so @thfcsteff, @AuroRaman, @GPRD81 and @milo decide to go full Sherlock Holmes and try to separate the wheat from the chaff aka the flimflam from the truth. We try -as ever- to see all sides, but crikey, sometimes it’s really, really hard to do so!

Nice pod cast there.

One question that comes up from it is this:

Is the link to poch and the feeling that he will come back when his PSG contract runs out putting potential mangers off? They are being hired to hold his beer?

Good point. And a valid consideration.

It's a good point. I think that most managerial appointments are relatively short term and you are in post for two or three years. I suppose it depends on how long he lasts at PSG.

Very interesting guys, I’ve been eagerly awaiting this episode.

Some very considered analysis and not just going with the current. The point around Paratici maybe not quite reading the room on some of his early moves given he’s not full time in role yet felt particularly pertinent.

I do also share your concerns @thfcsteff re Paratici, but let’s try and give him a fair crack of the whip I feel.

Fingers crossed for Potter now, but as you guys say, maybe we shouldn’t hold our collective breath. I just can’t see why he’d see it as a good move for him when maybe a Villa or Leicester would be a more stable next step for him, although those jobs might not come around for him for a while yet. Can we hope Levy has maintained a decent relationship with Barber to help smooth the outstanding compensation, should he be interested.

I’d be happy with ETH too to be honest.

Good stuff, looking forward to the next one!

It would be even worse if that’s the feeling within the club. Let’s just tread water until Poch comes back wouldn’t exactly be a great message to give our players. I really expect our people in charge have more short-term ambition than that and make it clear to any candidate.
Good podcast. I think it’s down to Martinez or Potter and would be happy with either.

I think that generally, it is difficult for managers to be picky when a big job comes along. Their stock can fall very quickly and the chance might not come around again.

Thanks for the feedback. I really enjoyed doing this episode. It was pulled together quickly after the Gattuso debacle and all the better for it.

As Eddie Howe is finding now.

A really interesting thought. I think the way we treated Poch might also be a factor TBH.

I don't think that he's very good. It's a shame that the Celtic job fell through because it would've been interesting to see how he did

Agreed, he was always over-hyped IMO too, but the way (and speed with which) he has been almost ex-communicated from the Kool Kids is alarming

The truth is that most managers end up getting sacked after a run of bad results. Poch and Levy are meant to be on good terms right now. I doubt that it is a factor for most managers

He wouldn't have lasted until Christmas at celtic, or rangers for that matter.
He is not cut out for those jobs.
It takes a special type of person (a clam) to be an old firm manager, he isn't it.
And that's something he should be proud of.

Some good points there lads.
To be honest though it only reinforced my thoughts that we don't really now what's going on, and that the club are not decisive enough.
So unlike Levy.
Strange times.

Agreed. I’ve always thought he was a nice bloke but an average manager. He struggled at Burnley due to homesickness apparently, so Celtic would definitely have been an interesting watch.
