Next Manager?

How long until we hear "Fonseca deal not definitely off!" though? Wouldn't be surprised if this was some sort of ploy to get fans excited about getting Fonseca afterall.

League starts in 8 weeks and we are still tinkling about with managers. So much for transfers and pre season. We cant blame anyone who wants to leave. This has gone beyond a sinking ship.

I would genuinely love to know what the decision making process is like. I'm willing to believe we thought there was an opportunity to get Gattuso, and maybe we were never that bought in on Fons (which would beg the question as to why he was the prime candidate for so long) and we think Gattuso would be better?

But why? What would give us the certainty? Is he seen as a bigger name? Our players would respect him more? Is he a different style? Different personality? Absolutely fascinated in how we make this decision.

If that’s true and we binned off Fonseca having agreed terms just because Gattuso became available, that’s bad, very bad.

but there’s also talk about tax liabilities - but you’d think same might apply to Gattuso?

I'm not sure which scenario is worse. Christ almighty, this is like how I used to be in a nightclub in my 20s. Moving from one girl to the next on a whim and getting binned off by all of them.

Only way it might not would be if Fonseca was still technically working from Ukraine or something like that - I saw his better half is a TV presenter there - and therefore there were additional complications

Gattuso

Sacked from Sion in 2013 after three months in charge.

Joined Palermo the following summer before getting sacked one month into the season.

The next season he joined Greek side Crete. Resigned in October, but changed his mind and stayed for two more months.

In January 2015, he applied for the manager's position at Scottish club Hamilton Academical, which he clearly didn't get.

In the 2016/17 season he gets Pisa promoted from Serie C before resigning. After one month off he comes back and they finish last in Serie B with the second best defence in the league, but the worst attack. He leaves again.

In 2017 he takes over AC Milan's U-19 team before getting promoted to the first team in November when Montella was sacked. Leaves by mutual consent in 2019.

Takes over at Napoli in December 2019 after they sack Ancelotti. Sacked in May 2021 after they lose out on CL qualification by one point following a 1-1 home draw with Verona on the last day.

Agrees to take over Fiorentina on 1 July, but leaves before officially taking charge over disagreements on player investment and the involvement of Jorge Mendes.

And we're moving on to him....because?

Sounds like a perfect fit for Tottenham Hotspur! We're officially insane if we hire this guy. Then we might as well just close shop.

We have a DoF so have to let him get on with it now. We'll get a manager in one of these days.

"have to let him get on with it now" - well, clearly, its not as if one of us can change the process.

However, Fonseca was meant to be his choice, and we're now moving on from him after a week or so. Accidents happen, things go wrong of course.

Gattuso looks like one hell of a gamble though given he doesnt seem to have done much in his managerial career, whereas Fonseca had won things. And thats before you get on to his apparent volatility (same as when he was a player)
