Tanguy Ndombele

I'm expecting him to be the first to jump ship and most likely to be the one who refuses to play. Mind you there'll be a few. Clubs a miserable Place for supposed winners. Hope I'm wrong. Hope we find another investor to join Enic at the very least and make a huge surge forward :(
None of them are winners so let them all go.
This guy should be at the front of the queue.

I have seen things on the pitch from Ndombele that indicate that he could be a top class player in the number 8 role or (more likely) in the number 10 role. Incredible skill, great balance and strength on the ball along with incredible vision to spot a defence splitting pass and very good execution of those passes.

I've not seem anything from Lo Celso that suggests he can be much more than a squad player in the Premier League.

When we (hopefully) upgrade our midfield this summer I think the primary aim has to be to get in a powerful, physical but still skilful central midfield destroyer. I've banged on about Soumare too often on here but he really is absolutely perfect for what we need. Selling Winks, Lamela and Sissoko would pay for him and we'd instantly have a far better balance to the engine room of our team.

Yes, you have mentioned Soumare a few times. How do you think he compares to Zakaria of Monchengladbach?
I'm sure Soumare will be hotter property if/when Lille win the league this season...

Whilst this is true - would you not expect more over the last 2 seasons given the vast amount of money we spent on him?
I thought we were getting somewhere up to around February. Since then his form has fallen off a cliff and he was literally walking around against Southampton. I am losing patience - he needs to be much more consistent given his price tag and the patience/belief we've put in him.

Agree 100% with this which is why I'd sell one of Lo Celso/Ndombele (leaning towards Lo Celso on talent ceiling not effort). Then we could really break the bank on a proper central midfielder and use the squad fodder sales to buy a top class centre half.

I think Soumare is better on the ball than Zakaria and also probably has the edge physically. Though the two of them together would probably probably make the perfect midfield base (if only we had the owners/money to invest). My thinking here though is that we already have Hojbjerg and are looking for a partner for him as opposed to replacing him.

The other advantage with Soumare is that he only has 1 year left at Lille so should be more gettable than Zakaria.

Agree 400% with this which is why I'd sell one of Lo Celso/Ndombele (leaning towards Lo Celso on talent ceiling not effort). Then we could really break the bank on a proper central midfielder and use the squad fodder sales to buy a top class centre half.
I agree with everything you say. I think the key for our next manager will be to have Ndombele settle into a position (I think both number 8 and 10 role suit his talents but there is quite a lot of coaching to be done for him to play as a number 8 without us looking exposed defensively as he is a bit all over the shop with his positioning.

Interesting, thanks. I was always given the impression from 'reports' that Zakaria was the more 'polished' one in terms outright aggression/defensive ability...
We certainly need someone who is a specialist physical DM and it's a worry regarding our recruitment strategy that since we knew that Wanyama wasn't the same beast after his injury in 2017 that we haven't been linked to many of those type of players (whilst i can name a fair few attackers/forwards for example)

Indeed. Zakaria would be an upgrade on Hojbjerg I think. Soumare is a real physical specimen but is also good with the ball at his feet. Both of them and we'd be superb. Either one of them makes us better (and I think Soumare is better suited to playing alongside Hojbjerg and more gettable).

I'll temper that by saying that I think Zakaria is further developed than Soumare and I think Zakaria could come in and dominate immediately whereas Soumare would probably spend muc of the first year adapting.

A little like the chairman in the transfer market
