The Fight to Qualify for the European Conference League 2020/21

It might sounds obvious but when there are so many teams in the running for something, only very good/excellent form will mean you succeed. So one of the teams in the running for 3rd/4th (depending on what you're looking at) will probably take say 24 points from the last 30 available and one might take say 20. Its a short enough period that someone can realistically win 8 out of 10 games.

Therefore we're not going to get CL football from our league position by stumbling over the line. I think the 3 away games you mention, we probably need 7 points from given we're a little behind and have the EL to contend with too.
Agreed, but I also think it's at least plausible that no team goes on a real run.

Very difficult to map out or predict. I think we're definitely less likely to make top four than to make it, but there's a decent chance there with us finding form.

Crazy season and the usually obvious of one game at the time seems even more true this season.

And unfortunately we know all too well, from experience over many years , what that means........
Means we have a better chance of achieving our aims at the end of the season regardless of our next result because our direct competitors having fewer points can only be a good thing no matter what happens?

That is of course a truism but doesn't alter the history of our failures to grasp chances whenever results have gone in our favour elsewhere.

A truism is surely better than a falseism?

If what you're saying is true would even be in the EL this season? Would we have repeated CL appareances?

Prior to this season, I remember only too well our failures to go top when the situation presented itself. Dating all the way back to when Mike ( formerly known as Mick) Robinson scored to give lowly Brighton a shock 1-0 win at WHL.

Those have a tendency to stick in the mind. But there would have been no way for us to have experienced the success we have experienced if we didn't also take advantage of those situations.

So this season is different then if we've already gone top. If we took advantage to go top, (wasn't that beating Arsenal too?), then why would taking advantage to go 5th be harder or more unlikely?

I don't remember us going top immediately following the Scum game

I'm guessing we want a Manure win tonight. That would leave us three points off fourth place if we win our game in hand.

Catching Manure or Leicester won't happen, but overtaking Everton and our two minor London rivals isn't completely out of the question with ten games to go.

Judging by today we should be happy to get top six, of course, but it's a strange season after all.

As of today the following cannot catch us :-

gw 29 - West Bromwich Albion
gw 28 - Sheffield United

We cannot finish bottom two!

This seems to be very late in the season for those sorts of teams to be ruled out from finishing 5th (?) - is that the case, if you can remember previous seasons ?

April

Sun 4 Saudi Sportswashing Machine (A)
Sun 11 Man Utd (H)
Sat 17 Everton (A)
Sun 25 Emirates Marketing Project (LC final)

May

Sat 1 Sheffield Utd (H)
Sat 8 Leeds (A)
Wed 12 Wolves (H)
Sat 15 Aston Villa (H)
Sun 23 Leicester (A)

Somewhere in there we have to play Southampton (H) as well.

Should win at Saudi Sportswashing Machine (we definitely owe them one), but we'll struggle in the next two. The United game is sandwiched between their two games against Granada in the EL, so maybe? Don't have much hope for the final. Going to need a lot of points from the last month of the season.

Utd have their Europa QF either side of our game...quite helpful for us
