Gareth Bale

Even at 60% of his peak Bale remains a more potent goal threat than Lamela has ever been for us.

Thanks. Notice that Vini runs diagonally, dragging the guy away towards the centre, leaving Bale a free pot at goal with no challenge.
Very nice to see Dele and Bale make football look so easy; I'm sick of watching imbeciles dribble into problems. Amazing how easy football is when it is done right.

Nice to see him take that chance so well. But useful to remember that that sort of play simply won't be on against the likes of Burnley. They'll have eight hardened criminals on their backline.

Yeah, but that's why that left foot is useful, if they stand of him or just give him a little space, he'll smash it. If they close him, it opens space for others.

Surely we could use the imbeciles to create defensive blocks for us

So true.

Agreed. His sharpness is key as are the players around him. Better players around him equal success.

It's the first time in months that I am feeling a little optimistic about the rest of the season, mainly because of him. Because of how he played today, showing us how good (world class?) he still is, and perhaps even more because of the space his presence will create for Harry and Sonny (and Lucas if he keeps playing like today). If we manage to beat Fulham on Thursday, we should certainly also beat Palace, and then I will dare to be hopeful.

That moment when he was briefly in the right back position and knocked it past someone and went past them made me give a loud 'Yesssss!' and my two boys looked at me like I was mad. They didn't understand that was the sprint we have been waiting for. I mean the first goal was nice and all but its that moment when he opened up and sprinted full pelt that I enjoyed the most today. Fingers crossed he can stay fit now, cos we bloody need him if we are to get something out of this season.
