Pierre-Emile Højbjerg

I don't think that is the case. Winks, Hojbjerg and Sissoko have all played at the base of midfield and Lo Celso can play there too. They aren't like for like replacements but they give us options. Hojbjerg has also been played in a more advanced position in some games, so it is not as if we have signed him as a specialist in one position.
For me it's a clear concern. I still struggle to see a good partnership among the other players. Yeah, we can probably make it work, but there's nothing proven to work in that bunch.

This might be ridiculous, but could he be the single most important player to keep fit this season? Most definitely looking forward to being called out as massively wrong on this if and when it happens and others prove me to be an idiot.

Midfield three might make a big difference in his future potential absence.

I would see the only natural back up to Hojberg as Dier. But that would mean having a settled CB pairing and Sanchez looks shot of confidence right now.

I know Souness is not a popular person on here but before the United match he told Evra that our midfield were stronger than Uniteds, Fernandes looks as nice player, bit like Eriksen, Pogba is just a bully, world class when you're on top and trotts about when you're in the brick, Maitc what does he do, cant run, doesnt seem able to get near anybody to tackle and limited passing. It's easy to blame the defence when they get no help from the line in front even when they a bit shaky. A couple on seasons ago plenty on here were saying we should be looking at Shaw, Maguire and the boy from Palace.

I wouldn't want to be without him for long. For rotation, during a heavy run of fixtures, I think that we have enough options.

Hes certainly got a better game than I thought, when I've seen him with the Saints he just looked like a dog chasing a ball.

He's a really adaptable midfielder, who can play any of the central positions (and FB and CB to a degree) and follows his manager's instructions.

He obviously isn't the best passer in the world, not even top 3 passer in our squad. Probably not even top 5.

He's a good passer though, with good range and variation in his passing game. And he's not afraid to play progressive passes. And he doesn't shy away from trying again if one or two don't work out.

As a result he can look sloppy, poor even on the ball if a string of passes happen to not work or. Particularly for a team that wants to attack quickly and are less about high possession. Were some misplaced passes last night too, definitely not the best game we've seen from him in that regard imo.

He's good though, definitely not like some of the more technically limited midfielders we've seen over the years.
