I'd love to play the role of a typical negative, moping Spurs fan, moaning that there's little chance of getting Europa League because Arsenal are in such great form that they'll beat Chelsea. And that the Woofers will take max points from their remaining games.
But reality is, our chances are pretty decent. And if we were to somehow not qualify, it's clear that it wouldn't upset a great many. I like the competition just as a way to boost development of younger players. Look what it did for Kane.
We don't have full control of our destiny, but a win over Palace puts us in a good spot, out of reach of SheffU and the Popguns. Pretty sure it'll be a fun week of training at Hotspur way. They have a tough mid-week visit to Liverpool but know that a win secures CL qualification(which would give Wolves a much easier match on Sunday). Sure, the reds are home and cooled. But their supporters will want to see Chelsea beaten at every opportunity to make up for the hurt they've inflicted. And a home win takes them to a significant point total for their title-winning season - 96. They can run their tadgers out at Saudi Sportswashing Machine for fun.
If Var United give West Ham the tonking they deserve Wednesday, then United go to third, two points up on Chelsea heading into the final weekend. A draw with Leicester would be all they need in their final game.
Chelsea v Wolves could see both desperate for the win. Assuming they beat Palace today, the Woofers need it to claim sixth. Chelsea will be craving the win in order to complete the Havertz transfer, which might not happen if they were to miss CL qualification. I could see Chelsea pull the plug early in Liverpool if they're down a couple after an hour and save energy for the final home game. A last day win or draw for Leicester could drop Chelsea out of the top four. Leicester's superior goal differential wins if they're tied on points.
So can Chelsea rally to win the FA Cup and send us to Europe? They'll go into that match buoyed by having finished top four or tinkled off they didn't and badly need some redemption. Either way, they won't be indifferent and that will give them the edge over an Arsenal side just a little too eager to deliver payback for the EL final defeat. In Luiz, I trust.
Then, their fans can mock us all they want about Thursday nights, channel 5, a time slot they're all too familiar with.
