Pat Jennings

Letting Jennings and Greaves go too early. That's the two worst decisions in the clubs history (and GHod, there has been a lot).

My memory of Daines is a little different, in that whenever called on to play when PJ was injured he would play really well.

Unfortunately, when PJ went so did BD's ability. It was really sudden and obvious .... was it because he didn't have a star to emulate?

Classic own goal against Bristol Rovers !. That was the return after Lacy scored 4 on debut in 9-0 at the Lane

I think you'll find that it was Colin Lee with those 4 debut goals.

John Lacy was a central defender and I doubt he scored 4 goals during his entire career.

D'oh - I nearly put a query as it didn't feel right as I typed. Another debut star who went nowhere (i.e. Chelsea)

i hope we got good money for jennings when he left - don't recall him ever being a bad keeper. did we really think we had a keeper who could be better than jennings?

At that stage keepers didn't have such a long working life at the top. Can't quote you the figures, but I don't recall 40 yo or any much above mid-30 as the rest of the players.

Then again, I gave Lacy 4 goals ... so the Guinness is Good For You tag may have its limitations.

Not a penny.

He was out of contract and allowed to leave on a "free".

I vaguely remember jennings at the world cup executing a one handed save... Anyone confirm that?

Sort of. If it is the one I am thinking of, he came for a long, lofted ball into the box, got underneath it, and after it went over his head he threw back an arm to catch it one handed.

There's a one handed catch shown 9 seconds into this compilation, dunno if that's the one you're thinking of...

yeah that's the one - didn't look like he was under tremondous pressure but still pulled it off with the greatest of ease.

Those one handed catches were feckin' brilliant! Keepers today prefer to punch rather than catch with two!
