World Cup 2018 Group D (Argentina, Iceland, Croatia, Nigeria)

Oh well. My optimism wasn’t enough to see Nigeria through. Pretty dire really.

Disappointing performance and result by Argentina. Iceland is supposed to be the weakest team in the group but Argentina failed to beat them and it will be costly later. Aguero scored a brilliant goal but Argentina's shyte defence duly conceded the goal immediately after that. Messi didn't have his goal scoring boot on as he missed the penalty and wasted a few other chances as well. Argentina's attack looked toothless and they relied too much on Messi.

Some pundits picked Nigeria to make a mark in the WC but they never turned up against Croatia and were duly got beaten. It was a boring match as both Croatia and Nigeria didn't create many chances. All the African teams have been poor and lost their matches so far. Not sure how the remaining African teams, Tunisia and Senegal, will fare in their matches.

Of all the players send back from the World Cup due to disciplinary reasons, the most bizarre story must be of the French player Jean-Francois Larios who was send back from the 1982 World Cup after 2 matches because of rumours of him having an affair with team captain Platini's wife. What a way to cause disunity in the team ! Remember, France lost to W.Germany on penalties in the semi final and he was allowed to play in the 3rd/4th place match.
