Moussa Sissoko

Dier was terrible last night IMO. His performance was far worse than Sissoko's. If I were Poch I would drop him for this weekend's game as a result.
Well he did have to pass through/around Sissoko a fair bit.

I'd be very surprised if Poch was planning to play Dier on Sat anyway - with all the Mourinho stuff that's been going on, I think he'll want to take him out of the spotlight if possible.

Of the other 10 starters, who would you say played better than Sissoko last night and who would you say played worse?

Sissoko was more than ok ystd. He worked hard off the ball, ran well, scored, had a few decent shots and created a couple of chances too. This is just a witchunt at this stage and the guy has been decent for us this year. I hate his technique but credit where credit is due, he's been a pretty decent squad member for us this year.

Far worse culprits ystd, namely Toby who looked non committed throughout. Fans slag off players and then can't believe it when another one (rose) actually says what most of our players and fans think and know. It works both ways

I thought Sissoko was plenty involved yesterday, took his goal well and showed for the ball, which was encouraging.
My main concern over him, he just doesn't look too comfortable with a football at his feet, from a technique perspective. Whether that's because his confidence has taken a battering over the last year or so, or it's just not up to scratch. I never watched him play when he was at the small club in Sunderland tbh, so don't know if he's always been this way.
Of course I want him succeed, just my view.

In the first half, Son, Alli, Dier and Toby at least.

Second half they were all as bad as each other (albeit less clumsy than Sissoko).

You really are reaching when it comes to Sissoko. For someone of such intellect, you do enjoy embarrassing yourself with your comments a lot....

Hmmm sounds like a copout to me... your obsessive bias against Sissoko is starting to be rather embarassing (unless you're just enjoying winding people up, which let's be honest would be a little bit embarassing too! ;))

Come on, you've both seen Sissoko on the ball.

He has terrible technique - even some of his fiercest defenders have admitted that. He is often really funny to watch (only because those funny moments have yet to cost us in a match) and often does inexplicably clumsy things on a football pitch.

Is he strong? Yes. Quick? Yes. Useful in rare situations where we're given a lot of space? To some extent - but we showed against Liverpool we play much better football without him.

This isn't bias or a vendetta - other than doing a Danny Rose when he was at Saudi Sportswashing Machine he seems a decent enough chap. But he is undeniably funny to watch when he tries to play football.

This thing about Sissoko's technique is massively overplayed. He consistently has demonstrated decent control in tight situations. He looks clumsy because of his build and running style but in reality isnt. What about the myth that players wont pass to him? Rather than take on the final defender Son slotted in Sissoko. Funny, his technique looked fine to me running through on goal and putting the chance away....

It has clearly happened on occasions.

Can't remember the match, but there was one where Eriksen and another player were playing neat little passes around the edge of the box whilst Sissoko just bumbled around getting in their way. Eriksen has looked up and seen a clear pass to Sissoko on a few occasions and turned into a far more difficult angle to dribble or pass to someone else when they're not in a better position.

It is strange how you make excuses for everyone other than your pet hate. Last night I thought Ali had a pretty good game. Son started well and got worse and worse as the game went on. Sissoko was better than every other player, significantly better than most and yet you choose to single him out in that game, that merely weakens your argument IMO.

I don't think that Dier's technique is any better than Sissoko's and yet you never seem to single him out? Even when he is anonymous like he was last night.

And yet against Madrid we played well with Sissoko who are a much superior team to Liverpool

I don't think we were nearly as good on the ball against Madrid as we were Liverpool. It was a better overall performance but not as fluid and we didn't control the match the way we did against Liverpool.

I didn't single him out - it's only about 5 posts above yours where I state he was better than around half of the team for the first half.

His clumsiness is what singles him out. No player at our level (or for any of the other top clubs that I can think of) is like that - clumsiness is (IMO) not a trait in high demand amongst teams who want to compete for the title.

As for Dier, I assume that's just a troll because I've yet to see him trip himself over or spaz the ball off his own shin. He's also one of the most highly rated players in both our team and the England set up (that one's a low bar, I know). If there's an agenda, your attempts to belittle Dier at every opportunity (did he bum your dad or something?) are way out of line with everyone else's opinion of him.

The other players who've had worse games are either at the very beginning of their careers or have shown, over decent periods of time, that they are up to the standard of a Spurs player - they are good players on a bad day. That deserves criticism, but I won't call for them to be sold as they have shown they can play at the required standard and had an off day. Sissoko has yet to look nearly up to the skill level I want to see in my team - even Lloris is more comfortable on the ball than he is.

He is a senior player with (fudge knows how) a decent amount of PL experience. He should be able to control a ball, he should be able to not be in everyone else's way, he should (if our transfer system isn't broken) be able to contribute to our aims of keeping the ball and passing it around/through the opposition.

If it was anyone else I'd be screaming that this is exactly the problem with how people are evaluating Sissoko, way too harsh. Objectively, if we take last season out of the equation, this season he has been perfectly up to standard. He's been one of our better contributors in a lot of games, where as guys like Dele have been some of our worst.

Objectively, match to match, he's been doing exactly what is expected of him and is most of the time one of our better contributors. If we're expecting him to have Ronaldinho level dribbling skills, he never will. But his touch, his passing, his ability to find a team mate, his ability to keep the shape of the team well and fill his role, it's all pretty good.

And I know you're only being overly critical for comic-effect at this point, so it's fine.

He's been doing what he's expected to do - not a lot. Be strong, be physical, play on the break, etc.

That's not good enough for the quality of team we have now and it's certainly not nearly good enough for the price we paid. Had we paid around a third of what we did, I'd be describing him as a useful, if at times funny and clumsy, bench warmer. If this was Spurs of 2007-8 then I'd say he was a decent, marginal upgrade on Zokora.

His touch, passing and ability to find a team mate is not pretty good at all. They are his worst traits. And, at best, is "hit and miss".

I think thats the problem with him. We play in a way where all of these are key things, and its in these things he simply isnt at the level of his team mates. No where close.

Incidentally he can have a good touch, a good pass - but not consistently and that really is a problem.

Objectively he simply isnt as good a footballer as the rest of the squad.

While some people are harsh on him, others are seriously stretching credibility in his defense.

That being said, he is still improving. And is now making contributions. More impressive, for me, is that he no longer hides, and no longer bricks himself when the play comes to him. He is starting to try and impress himself on things which shows a huge change in attitude for him which Im delighted with.

If he continues to progress he may well become decisive in games for us this season.

Last night? Typical of what Ive been saying really, inconsistent. First half I thought he was good, second bad. At times I looked at him and thought "Yes, thats it!" and then the next time he got the ball (with a bemused smile) "what the hell was that?!"

I have to say I thought he took his goal VERY well, and hopefully itll be another step in his redemption. His last goal was bundled in and he knew little about it - this one was a peach - the sort that can really boost a player.

be thankful.;)
