Ben Davies

I was more interested with how he did as the third CB against Apoel. He plays there for his country and could arguably become Vertonghen's heir in a few years.

He was great today though, he's getting more and more involved in the final third and reaping the rewards. Confidence is a big thing.

That was a great finish today. Davies is certainly the number 1 left-back/left-wing back now, Rose will have to fight hard to get back in as first choice, but I do expect him to fight for his spot -- and that's very good for us.

It also seems very even for the number 1 spot on the other flank, neither Aurier or Trippier has claimed 'first choice' yet, imo.

He's been part of one of the best defences in the league and his movement and passing have fitted our style of play perfectly, but it's just a matter of times until we play Real, City or Liverpool and he is beaten for pace and he will become a poor substitute for Rose by the usual suspects.

People will always play favourites I guess. Rose was one of my favourite players before his silly interview. When it comes to what both of them have produced on the pitch, they have both been excellent. It's the strongest position in our squad really, because it doesn't matter which of them plays, the football and results are kept at a high standard.

MOTM today for me which is a little weird I suppose considering Kane's two goal salvo. The pass to Sissoko at the end was superb as was his finish (Davies' earlier one, not Sissoko's net buster).

was thinking about this yesterday too. displayed everything required for a complete footballer - fitness, hard work, courage, teamwork, intelligence across the pitch, composure, awareness and a well deserved goal too. that video shows it all.

huddersfield were fit and strong but not fast. and i think that suited davies' game well.

Has been excellent this season and for me it has been a massive fudge you to Danny Rose. End of the day, under Poch every player can come into their own in our system. Really coming into his own and seems to have improved physically slightly as well.

However I think people are forgetting how good rose has actually been for us for 2.5 seasons. He is everything Davies is currently with a little more pace, aggression and dynamism. This is especially important agains the big teams and also when we are playing badly. He can often be the one who digs us out of a difficult period in a game and sets the tone.

Saying that on current form Davies is unstoppable and long may it continue. Would love to see rose on the bench for a good period when he's back to show him who's boss. On the flip side Walker (his good mate) now pays more tax each week than rose earns and is probably going to win more than us in the next few years - a lot of what rose said was BANG on the money, will have resonated with most of our players - issue is he went to too far. Guess we'll see how this pans out when he returns but fans need to stop with the sell him to a rival nonsense as again it strengthens them and weakens us.

You see nothing Davies is better at than Rose?

Always rated this guy and could not understand why some under rated him. For me he is the number one LB and is improving all the time.
Because some people rate pace and physicality more than it should be rated. I remember several claims that a player with his pace just could never be a success for us.

See the Aurier/Trippier and Sissoko arguments for more examples.

Because Rose has been world class at times and has that dynamisism that shines against the top sides.

But davies has been generally very good to excellent and is on the upwards curve at the moment. The playing time Davies is getting now is warranted and he his attacking play and support has shown a whole new side to his game too

Thats just not true. He is quicker and more aggressive, Ill give him that. Though Im not sure it counts for much when you actually look at the way our play shakes out with Davies. Dynamism? What does that even mean?

By any objective measure Davies is at least as good as Rose, if not better. His defensive metrics are superior and his offensive ones were behind (arguably, theres a quantity vs quality element here) but are rapidly improving.

They have different styles, and some see charging around as superior to Davies more considered approach.

I think the difference was most telling in attack.

Rose has more crosses, more attempted key passes and more shots. At the time I checked, he had however the same assists and only one more goal as Davies.

It was apparent while Davies attempted less, his success rate was higher. And when it came to actual goals/assists there was little between them (Since I looked Davies has scored/assisted 6 in 9 and is now clearly ahead.)

You mention big games, personally I would prefer Davies. He has the better defensive game, and he is much less likely to lose the ball in advanced areas. While his passing/crossing etc is much more likely to complete.
