Davinson Sanchez

Feels like a significant signing, and not just because of the money involved.
Here's hoping for many successfully solid years at the back for Tottenham.

Fantastic signing, if unexpected, given that we didn't seem in need of an RCB. But he's quality, from everything I've heard of him - fierce competitor, lightning-fast, strong, good in the air, and only 21. He'll be great in a three-man back line, if we go down that route - perfect for dealing with the pacier strikers we'll come up against this season on the larger Wembley pitch. And we've given him a six-year deal, too, so plenty of time for him to develop in the longer-term as well.

I feel a bit bad for Ajax - they don't deserve to have this happen to them all the time. But at least we paid a record fee on our end and one of the largest fees for a defender *ever* (so far, anyway), so they can't say that they've been shafted on the price.

Well done to all involved for getting this over the line - Poch, Levy, the scouts, the whole shebang. Now get cracking on the others. ;)

Great signing - gives us much more depth at CB which to me was one of the big vulnerabilities in our squad. Means Dier can play more in the position which I think he's best as well.

I fear that 2-3 good seasons will see us get a big offer from one of the Spanish giants for him, however having players which clubs like that want is better than the opposite.

Great first signing of the summer! 3 more like this please!

Yes, he seems to give us cover in more than one area and tactical flexibility with an eye on being a successor to Toby or Jan when their more advanced years become a significant factor.

Is he worth the price? I don't know enough about him to judge. I'm excited that we've shown a lot of ambition by signing a player this young, for that much, but honestly other than hearing him playing for Ajax, being fast, 21, and a right sided centre back, I know very little. But welcome to the club Davinson Sanchez. :)

Regarding the price, we've only paid £28m as the base fee - £42m probably implies he plays 200 games for us and we win the league in that time, in which case he's worth it.

I just read that Sakho might move from Liverpool to West Brom for £30m, Michael Keane went to Everton for £30m - in that context, I dont feel that the price is a problem

I think we have to see how Dave fits in. PL football is tough.

Welcome Sanchez!

Wouldn't be hilarious if by the end of the window we can say "North London aint big enough for more than one"

:D

Anyone know how his English is? Think that's always important for a settling in period...

Well, he'll have zero problems communicating with Poch, and if he picked up any Dutch during his year in Amsterdam, he'll have zero problems communicating with half the damn squad, from Verts to Toby to Eriksen to Moussa. :p
