Tottenham decide not to activate Clinton N’Jie clause

Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur have decided not to activate a clause in their complex arrangement with Marseille that would allow them to recall Cameroonian international Clinton N’Jie, according to L’Équipe.

There was an automatic buy-clause in their loan agreement with Marseille for Clinton N’Jie last summer, which OM have had to act on, but there was also a clause that allowed THFC to take N’Jie back if they decided he was worth it which would have over-ruled Marseille’s automatic buy clause.

THFC have decided not to activate that and N’Jie will remain a Marseille player.

I'm trying to wrap my head around how these clauses were supposed to work, but I'm pretty sure it's mr journalist here messing it up not really understanding it himself. Sounds like utter nonsense. :p

To me it just sounds like a deal that was heavily weighted in Spurs' favour.

Marseille get the player on loan for a year, as long as they guarantee that they will take him permanently in the summer for a pre-agreed fee.

However, if Spurs' think they can get more money or suddenly want the player back, then they have an option to cancel the transfer part of the deal before the window opens.

Well...bye, Clinton. We never really got to see what you were capable of - but I'm sure you'll make us regret this sale when you inevitably score against us a couple of years from now. :p
