Bale. Could we? Would we? Should we?

Purely hypothetical.

If a situation arose where Bale had fallen out of favour with ZZ and wanted to move on/was being pushed out, and we had first refusal, would you take him on?

Would he upset the current great team balance we have?

Who would he replace?

Would his much higher wages cause tensions?

Like I said guys just hypothetical questions

If a player of Bale's ability is available, you can afford him and they want to join you, you have to sign them.

Where would he fit in? I think that we would move back to 4-2-3-1 and he would take Son/Lamela's place in the first team.

We would also walk the league.

This thread is going to be one of those Ronaldo ones back to man you even after he retires.

Hi RM we can pay 200m over 10,000 years and bale are you willing to take a marginal pay cut .. let's not go into detail we can sort those things later

He'd be the best player at the club, the best player in the league, as @milo says, we'd walk it. But then he could sign for Sunderland and that would still be the case.

He's on twice what we could afford to pay and he's Madrids most important player, in the unlikely event that he moved on there is a queue of teams ahead of us all with fatter wallets.

Yes and no. Yes because obviously he's one of the best players in the world. Yes because if he'd dragged the pearooster along with him, we would be one of the best teams in recent history. Not man for man of course, but in terms of flexibility and balance. We could have a back 3 behind Kane who's utterly interchangeable, along with a type of winger/striker who could actually work equally as good as a striker backup. Add the Croatian maestro who could fill both Dembele and Dier's role (I haven't warmed 100% to Wanyama yet) in the back midfield, who would give us the best vision and spread of play on planet Earth, plus nobody would be able to steal the ball in that area. And of course our rock solid defense. A nice dream indeed.

I can't shake how talented and at the same time how grounded and humble our squad seems. I can't shake how Poch's system somehow makes the sum greater than its parts, much like Norway in the mid to late 90's, who were a mix of average to good players doing great (albeit boring, football wise). At Spurs, we have a mix of good to great players looking brilliant, and not just in short bursts. I'm opposed to anything that could ruin that. I wouldn't swap anyone on our current first XI unless it was for someone significantly better, and who fit our system (because for the first time in many, many years we actually HAVE a system, roles, movement AND a plan B), attitude and mindset. We are entertaining, which we have been for quite some time, but now we are entertaining for all the right reasons. Not because we are all out attack who one day beat someone 5-0 but loses by the same margin 7 days later, but because we grind teams into submission, looking pretty in the process. I don't care if we win the league or not as long as we are seriously contending, this is the Tottenham I've wanted for as long as I've been able to assess football further than just the scoreline and tables. We have no stars, we are just a terrifying German-like machine but great to watch. Not many are laughing at us anymore. I've only seen us played off the park once in the league this year even with our injuries to key players, and that was by a Liverpool team too stupid to respect us. Add to that my boy Kane who nearly none had any faith in after his "confidence dip" in EL, who is great at nothing but good at absolutely everything (except vision sometimes), lighting up the scene and finally getting the recognition he deserves.

Anyway, went off target here. My point is that Bale has seen the light, he's become a Hollywood moviestar as opposed to our Broadway stage performers. Is he the better actor? Definately. Would he fit our system of play? Probably. Would he take the pay cut necessary to fit our structure without us having to create a diva and a "star"? Not a chance in hell.

Edit: pearooster? Wtf?

There is talk of RM trying to offload Rodriquez. A marginally more realistic target and competition to the AM slots where we need it.

No,no and no for me.

I don't actually think he's that bothered about us as a club, but because he's this league's most successful export he is constantly asked about his only link to this league, us. He wouldn't want to come back and seems set on staying in Spain and being the #1 man at arguably the #1 side in the world. Even if he fell out with ZZ I think his agent and him would be looking to get him to one of the established elite and I could easily see him signing for Mourinho at UTD before us. Wages also would be a significant stumbling block.

With all that said, he'd be ideal for the 4231 we have and would be fighting with Dele and Son. I'm not sure how we'd squeeze him into the 3421 unless we dropped one of Dembele or Wanyama to the bench and played Eriksen as a deep creator.
I don't know if he'd be a fit for the pressing nature of this side. He has had a lot of injuries and our physical regime might push his body too far.

Also on the hypothetical's, he's 28 this summer and would cost a lot without any re-sale value. Not in keeping with our business model, unless he was a purchase paid for over season's and we sold him after 2 etc.
