Transfer speculation

The thing that's struck me about Zaha, other than his current run of good form, is how much bigger he is now. He looks a real handful.

You are probably right. I was searching for an article with the quotes but was struggling to find one.

It was probably this - click on the tweet for quotes

It'll just be a case of him training full-time with the seniors and occasionally traveling with the team though rather than him actually been an option. He might get a few minutes in the cup but that's about it I would have thought so wouldn't have any bearing on us signing another forward.

I think GKN will be given another season - he's looked lively and talented in his cameos so far.

We need that 6th AM to complement Alli, Lamela, Son, Eriksen and GKN. That's what Sissoko has never done. Otherwise our squad is pretty much the perfect 22

I agree with this. He has somehow found his way on to the not needed list.

When he has been given a chance he has showed more than Njie or Sissoko has ever done. Looks gifted and technically sound.(oh and lightning quick!)

As an individual he has shown plenty but maybe he needs to demonstrate how he would fit into the structure of the team and by definition be a team player.

We're missing a trick not playing g him as a wing back whilst Rose is out - if Moses can do it at Chelsea I'm sure GKN could give it a go too

I agree. I think he has some talent there. One of the reasons that I think the Bruma stories are probably nonsense is because we have GKN.

I agree. Do you think the other two would play fuller roles and may negate the need for similar signings?

I don't think it will be unusual for a young signing to disappear for this first season for physical and tactical conditioning by Poch. We saw that to some extent with Son last year; Janssen and GKN this.

He seems to have longer term plans for integration, similar to the academy graduates. Also he could just be a flop like Njie.

I personally hope we can coax Arshavin out of retirement, in fact if we don't I'm off to support Inter Milan

:)

And Sissoko. And Berahino. And Benteke. And Christopher Samba. And Crouch. And Kenwyne Jones. And Andy Carroll. And Ryan Babel. And Charlie Adams etc.

Zaha and Barkley are my two particular warning lights for disasters waiting to happen at the moment.
What is it about each of them that you feel are warning lights for disasters by the way?

I like the look of Tielemans and for me he would be the ideal player to bring in to rotate with Eriksen, Dele and Dembele. Unfortunately for us, he is reportedly looking for first team football, which would probably count us out of the running. If this was us during the summer after Bale then maybe we'd be good for him, but at the moment we are looking for players to rotate in or give us another dimension. I don't think we can offer him what he wants.

One of the other names I have heard linked since the turn of the year is Davy Klaassen of Ajax. I think he would be a cheaper alternative to someone like Tielemans and has more experience. He'd likely take a few months to adjust but he's got goals in him and could cover either of Dele or Eriksen imo.

Lack of footballing intelligence is I think the common thread.

Poch by-and-large seems to understand the necessity of intelligence alongside physicality (although the Sissoko signing still baffles and haunts me).

I'm probably Edwards' biggest fan so in his case I'd say yes, especially in this 3421 formation as I think it suits him perfectly. He would only be 5th/6th choice AM to begin with so he doesn't need to be the finished article just yet but, in terms of potential at least, he is a level above anyone we could sign imo. He only has a year left on his contract and if he's not playing I don't think he'll sign another one so next season as it stands is looking like a make or break one for him here. CCV I'm less sure about but whilst we could go and sign someone who is further along in their development(like Michael Keane who has been rumoured), I think that for what is a relatively minor role we should see how CCV goes first and then reassess the situation later on if need be. He's had his year/18 months of integration so next season will be the time to put it to the test, if we go and sign someone to play instead of him then it would effectively have all been for nothing.

As Gandalf said "My heart tells me that he has some part to play yet.."

I'm with Yoof on the Edward's situation. My worry is that he'll get games and then get poached, but at the moment we don't have any choice in the matter with his contract only having a year left. It's just been a brick season for him with the injury coming during the time of the year when he'd have got games, maybe if we somehow have our final position locked in by the end of the season he will get some time.

Eriksen, Alli, Son, Edwards as the 4 to play off of the striker?
