Results Comparison Thread 2016/17

its Pep's first season - they will get better after they replace their creaky ageing defence, and can afford backups to de bruyne who would be paid enough to stay purring on the bench. i'm sure city will spend big in the winter transfer window - that might just give them the philip they need to mount a serious challenge for the title.

i do generally agree but so far he's signed a liability of a keeper and a real fixer upper of a cb

His signings for me haven't been great but he knows his stuff

It doesn't take a genius to work out they need to sort out an aging defence

The problem is that the quality they need doesn't just grow on trees

Huh? Mangala is 25 and Otamendi is 28. They've spent seventeen billion on defenders... this is not a problem... a problem is when you are 2nd from bottom with 2 fit defenders... Pep is lying in a barrel of tits, sucking his thumb.

They have 4 aging right/left backs that have all regressed fairly quickly. All in all their defence is a joke despite spending ridiculous amounts of money on it in recent years. Not to mention salaries!

Agreed, but they don't deserve sympathy. They got a free pass and threw it in the bin. They can buy almost anyone in the world. So many options they can attract and pay stupid money. Tricky!

I'm retired and I haven't got as much time to waste as you guys have, these stats are meaningless as so many factors are not included just the bare result of last season. All that matters is the result of our next game.

I disagree, its stats to back up what most people would tell you anecdotally i.e.

- Chelsea has improved massively
- United, Pool & City are better than last season
- Arsenal is pretty much the same
- We have matched and probably slightly improved on last season
- Leicester fell off a cliff

We are positioned as well as we could expect, its up to us to push on from here.
