Pre Season 2017

Long haul flights for pointless exhibition matches on crap pitches.

Just what coaches love messing up their serious preparations for the season.

Ah, very smart, Spurs. Golden opportunity for Zidane, Bale, Modders and co to poke our best players and persuade them to want to leave. Paranoid? Sure, but fudging hell.

Let them tap up Walkes, Ogilvie and Harrison all they want. Hopefully that will be the level of player we will send.

I doubt it. US and other high profile teams means there must be quite a bit of cash involved, as well as contracts regarding the quality of the teams the teams choose to play.

You have been around football long enough mate to know its all about the money nowadays.

Hopefully Poch will be sensible enough to sign Kane and Alli off with a Giggs-Wales injury.

Most players want to play for England - one of the appeals of staying/playing for Spurs would be our ability and tradition of England players.

Yeah, sorry, I didn't mean for England. I meant the sponsors' parades (pre-season friendlies in emerging football nations).

I don't think I've ever seen a crap pitch anywhere in the US, even "high school" pitches are prepared immaculately and tottenham have developed quite a few supporter clubs in the US, good marketing of course with their NFL deal also.

Unfortunately, it’s the state of game these days and with our NFL-new stadium link it makes sense to work on our US image. I agree with GB that it isn’t ideal preparation for the season. I watched Spurs v Juve in Melbourne and the pitch wasn’t great nor the fact that the stadium was built for cricket. Lamela and Wanyama were the only two players to show any form. Anyway a flight from the US isn’t as bad as Australia or Malaysia so hopefully we get something out of it.

I didn't mean specifically America re the pitches - I was just grouping it with South Africa, the Far East and Australasia as long haul emerging football regions. We had plenty of bad pitch pre-season experiences with comparable tours in those regions.

every other year we tour the US, been so for last 6 or so years, nothing surprising there. Direct flights to either coast from London, will have decent warm weather, good facilities in most areas (if not always best pitches).

Regardless of tours, etc. Poch has to figure out how to get us out the blocks faster, two seasons of first two months of struggle and top gear not found until December is definitely an area for improvement.

All I want for pre season is a long list of games played at Wembley so we are so used to that pitch that it feels like home next season.

It's not much to ask.

This. At least bring back the Wembley Cup that we played in a few years ago. Invite Gent back and 2 other clubs

I think that's mostly due to our key players being at international tournaments, including the pointless U21s one in summer 2015.

Poch has said it takes time to get them back into his peaking and tapering cycle
