Nabil Bentaleb

This is beginning to look a positive situation for Spurs. Bentaleb has finally begun to grow up and become the player he looked capable of whilst at Spurs. Kinda reminds me of the KP Boateng situation.

Schalke are a bit schit. They sit 11th with a recent, decent win over Herfa Berlin on the heels of a 1-1 draw at Bayern. But they lost three and drew one for all of December. As they begin Europa league play, they have a stretch of games with the mid-table clubs in and around them before playing their big derby with Dortmund on April 1. Unless they run the table into April, they aren't playing in Europe next year. Is that something appealing to Bentaleb? Might Schalke balk at taking him if they don't qualify for Europe?

If you're in Pochettino's shoes, you have to be monitoring Bentaleb's progress with interest and, possibly, sending encouraging signals about returning to England, where Spurs are definitely going to need a bigger squad and he'd be familiar with everything expected of him. No idea if he has burned bridges within the club, but by coming back, he might find himself better positioned to move to a more successful club if he doesn't stick with Spurs. I think Poch would give him every chance to redeem himself.

Honestly can't see Bentaleb coming back, he's done reasonable but hasn't torn up the league, from all reports, the agreed price is a good deal for us, fully expect he's gone by end of season.

Poch needs a couple of midfield options but nothing that Bentaleb (imo) address
- The wide/direct option (GKN, Sissoko, others been tried)
- Competition for Eriksen

No I see him as natural cover for Dembele. I. Think he would have done a much better job against Mane and supported Davies.
He has now shown potential as a CM, LB, LM and AM. Must be worth keeping but if past experience is anything to go by, Poch does not forgive easily. So I will be surprised if he returns.
Poch has only been positive about Siggi of the players he has let go.

See what you are thinking, but the problem is the word you used -> cover

Don't think its a good move for either us or Bentaleb to bring him back to be cover, if he can't displace someone (I don't think he would in first season at least), then the 17M or so would be better spent on the next potential.

I can see Bentaleb could throw a wobbly if he is not first choice but with Dembele not as fit as he used to be, I think there is a good chance of them alternating. And I am convinced Spurs will be seeking a replacement for Dembele very soon.
Also, we will play more games than Schalke and it needs someone to convince him that he will be involved with first team squad, especially with his versatility.

Some times relationships deteriorate past the point of no return and I suppose that's what happened in this case. While the choice may have been difficult for Poch and the staff, if he simply wasn't willing to be a team player, then I believe the correct decision was made.

Big fan of Bentaleb, but it's a fantastic fee for a good player who might have struggled to get in the team next season. Really, I think this is another ringing endorsement of Winks, who simply needs to play going forward. I always hoped that Bentaleb could replace Dembele long term, but I'm starting to think that Winks will be the man who can partner with Dier/Wanyama for years to come.

If our CM rotation for next year will be:

Wanyama---Dembele
(Dier)--------(Winks)

I just don't think there's enough minutes in there for Bentaleb.

Good luck to him, and I hope he does great in Germany.

I was a big fan and had high hopes, but I trust poch to get it right.
He had confidence in his ability and to my eye a winning mentality, something we could do with some more imo.
Good luck nabil, just not against us should we meet again.

P.s. hope there's a sell on clause.

You know there is.

Shame.
Winks is no LDM, he still has a bit of learning to do regarding his defensive duties. More likely t the moment to press Eriksen's role but has to add goals.

Poch shows he is ruthless, once you fall out there is no reassimilation
