Going to treat myself to a rolex, always wanted one and financially in a good place to be able to buy one now, not sure whether to go for a Submariner or a GMT II

Whats everybody elses watch fancy ???

Oh No! Have a look at the Rolex Explorer I or II. They are imo the nicest they make and widely touted by watch experts as their best current models. Also very likely to appreciate in value.

Surely if you need a watch expert to tell the difference its not going to make much difference in the long run?

Go quirky Mark, get a pocket watch or a sun dial or something.

i've got this: http://www.thisnext.com/item/0479E579/Storm-Remi

Cost about ?ú90. For the past 4 years i've owned it, i've literally lost count on the number of compliments i've received on it. I've had people stop me in the shops in the US to ask me about it. Waitresses in restaurants stop and ask me about it. It's brilliant, tells the time, gets noticed, and costs less than a oner.

Yuck, looks like a cheap watch from Ratners hahah

Most decent watches will appreciate, my mate brought a sub last year for ?ú4k, its worth nearly ?ú5k now

How much is that setting you back Marky? ?ú5000? EDIT: Just flicked on t'web, more I'm guessing. Make sure you insure it all risks!

My most expensive watch is a Tag Aquaracer, cost me ?ú650, was retailing at around ?ú1000+, a pittance compared to what others spend I know. Also have a gold Garrard watch which was my father's and several titanium watches (I like titanium, more like gunmetal than shiny), was gutted when I mislaid a wafer thin titanium Seiko kinetic, it was so light you didn't know you were wearing it which explains why I didn't miss it immediately when I lost it.

Jeff Bridges wears a Rolex Submariner in the movie Crazy Heart for which he won a much-deserved and long-awaited Oscar Award.

Jeff’s “love affair” with Rolex dates back to as early as the 1970s. As you can see in the photos below, he’s wearing the Swiss luxury brand in the 1976 Kingkong movie.

Johnny Depp
, the most chameleonic actor of his generation, is seen wearing a Rolex Submariner watch.

Yeh around that, and yes i defo will get in insured for sure, a guy I work with has over 100 watches all over the ?ú1k mark, he is loaded though, he has put his watch man in touch with me so ill get a good deal too

Real men roll with Patek Philippe, one day I will get myself one. Insane prices though.

I'd say the submariner one myself, classic and will only go up in value.

After a new watch myself but buying a flat so will have to go on the backburner for now, will have to get a rolex at some point but will most likley get a Tag to start as I like some one the ones with the nice chunky clean faces and not too pricey considering what you can drop on some watches.

My brother just got a Breitling Navitimer which is really nice, will go up in value as well.

I got a niceeee 'D and G' watch but only wear it when i go raving. Gotta show them bitches that i keeps it shining at all times of course.

I went quirky. Got one from Marsh of Winchester. Swiss made. Obviously. But I kinda liked the idea of having a watch stamped by a local horology dealer. Don't think they still advertise it on their website unfortunately, and I can't be arsed taking a photo of it to post.

My next one will be a Tag Monaco. Would dearly love a vintage original, but they don't come onto the market nearly frequently enough, so the modern incarnation it will have to be - although staying relatively true to Steve McQueen's original, it'll have to be blue.
