Perhaps we're lacking pace in Central midfield?

Often the key to a counter-attack or playing an effective 4-4-1/4-3-3 I believ is having somebody in the centre of the field who can start or join a forward break quickly. Without Bale and Lennon, do we have enough pace in the team generally?

I think a central midfielder with some good pace may have made a difference for us this season, especially away from home.

I'm actually thinking we could have done with someone like Jenas at times this year....

Someone pacy like Ramires wouldn't go amiss, reckon him and Sandro would form a beastly pairing, and I guess they probably will do for Brazil at some stage.

If i ever see a picture of jenas in a spurs shirt again even if its an old photo i will go on a killing spree.

His time has been and gone like irleand and owen and keane he should retire or fudge off to america.

For english players we can have livermore and parrett or the aussie lungo, as for first team players the is some young croat a lot are talking about then the is the swedish midfielder i like elm. The are plenty of pacey hard working players round the english leagues and also europe they would be on half of marmites wages and would not have the mental weakness of jenas.

No more than you suggesting Jenas....

Let's be fair to Jenas. He has lots of pace and energy and I think would run more distances in a game than most playing now..

If next to a seasoned defensive midfielder, whereby he hasn't got to worry as much about getting back, Jenas is very effective.

Oh and he's liable to score more goals than Modric, Parker, etc.

Basically a three-man midfield of Modric, Parker/Sandro and Jenas would be FAR more effective in terms of forward play than waht Harry has tried since December (eg the Chelsea game at home).

Interesting point. Whilst I don't want to stat a big Jenas argument, who in our team (which has thrown away 3rd, plus a ten point kead on Arsenal) has shown mental toughness?

None of the uselss fudgers, but jenas has not shown that in 7 years with us. He should have been as big as lampard and gerrard, he has everything in his locker and has shown it for about 70 minutes every 9th game.

On the point of mental toughness or lack of it. I really think all this talk we often hear about experince counts for brick because having gallas, vdv, parker and ade has not done a lot for us and they all have a lot of experince. I would rather have guys who were tough and confident.

I've never bought into the experience and character card that's always played. Good fudging footballers and managers win you games, that's it.

Not just in midfield, we are now in a situation where the only player with a modicum of attacking pace in our team against the Goons is Moura

Our midfield are not very mobile. We need s playmaking midfielder and an out and out enforcer who can play the ball.
