Ratings v Chelsea

Cudicini - 6, some decent saves and only at fault for 1 of the goals. Although i expect King would have preferred Friedel behind him

Walker - 5, i thought he was our best defender, which isn't saying much. Seemed to give a brick
BAE - 4, poor
Gallas and King - 4s. Really disappointing. Yes they did make a couple of blocks and headers ala Carragher, but our backline was shocking. We were consistently disorganised and yes Drogba was very good today, but we managed to keep him quiet a few weeks ago

Lennon and Bale - 5s. Far too quiet, should have demanded the ball more, or got involved more to get it/help out. In the 2nd half, Bale was free on the left in a counter attack, Lennon (i think) had to pass to him, but went right, chance gone. May have been at 2-1, can't remember
Modric - 5. Disappointing again. His misplaced passes seem to be more of a regular occurance now
Parker - 7. Tried hard, drove us forward

Vdv. 6, our 2nd best player i think
Ade. 5. Extra touch too many times.

That was tough to watch and i feel for the fans at Wembley who were much better than Chelsea until the floodgates opened

Cudicini- A couple of great saves, was poor for the 4th goal, couldn't really do much for the others. Harsh to say we wouldn't have conceded 5 with Friedel seeing as Big Brad himself has also been involved in a few games this season where we've conceded 5.

Walker-3. Poor. Just...so poor. In both attack and defence.
Gallas-6. Don't blame him too much for the first. When Drogba is in the mood, he'll do that to most of the defenders in the world. He was directly at fault for another of the goals though, where his 'clearance' (but actually him trying to erratically dribble it out) cost us a goal.
King-6. Had his best game in a while today. But its sad to see such a formerly great defender and outstanding athlete barely able to move or turn anymore.
BAE- 3. Same as Walker

Lennon-5. Tried hard, looked exciting for a 20 minute period or so in the first half but completely disappeared in the second.
Parker- 7.5. Excellent. Drove on, tracked back well, excellent ball for our goal. Unfortunately, his teammates are Spurs and therefore collapsed.
Modric-4.5. Flashes in the first half. A ?ú40 million player should always be involved in the game, especially in the position that he plays in.
Bale-6. Scored. A couple of good runs.

VDV-5.5. Hard to rate as he grew into the first half and was looking very dangerous and involved. Then disappeared in the second. When decisions like the second happen, we need players like him and Gallas to make sure the players' heads don't go down.
Adebayor-4. Needed to score from that VDV pass. His failure to hold up the ball led to their goal. Often doesn't bother jumping to contest headers. Poor performance today.

Cudicini - 2. Was useless in the air, when commanding his box, when guarding his near post, when closing down players...useless.
Walker - 3. macaronic, inept performance from the man who watches videos of Dani Alves before bed everyday. Well, today you played like Benny Alves, Dani's limbless war veteran brother.
King - 4. Tried, at least. Was slightly better than Norwich.
Gallas - 3.5. Mehhhh. Old, creaky, was bound to happen.
Benny - 4. Afro didn't help.
Lennon - 4. Tried hard to make things happen, but had zero composure or killer instinct when it mattered.
Parker - 7. Hero. Fought tirelessly and made the through ball for Bale's goal.
Modric - 3. Trying to impress Roman, Luka?
Bale - 4. Goal. Other than that, the highlight was when he ran a full 80 yards with the ball, all guns blazing, before letting it eventually go over the line for a goal-kick.
VdV - 3. Eh?
Ade - 4. Occasionally gave a damn.

Subs-
Defoe - N/A
Sandro - N/A

Harry; Just...go. Please, just go. At the end of the season, leave. Maybe I'll change my mind, I don't know. But now? After ripping our squad apart in the January window, leaving us with no cover? After running our players into the ground with your lack of rotation? After standing cluelessly on the touchline while being out-thought and out-maneuvered by manager after manager, from Pulis to Lambert to Di Matteo? After practising no set plays, no set pieces, no moves on the training ground, after doing absolutely nothing by way of pre-match preparation except telling our players to go out and play?

But most importantly of all, after not learning from our mistakes last year?

fudge off to england, if they'll have you.

Couldnt have said it better myself

I'm only doing this until Defoe for VDV and switching to 4-4-2, because a few seconds later we went 3-1 down and our heads dropped so ratings won't be fair because of the ghost goal.

Cudicini 7 Couldn't do anything about the real goal, couple of excellent stops in the lead up to the ghost goal, but I can't really lower his rating based on the ball not crossing the line and being given a goal, by that logic every striker that gets a goal cleared off the line would get improved ratings.

Walker 6 Couple of good defensive moments, but made a couple of minor mistakes too, didn't really go forward much. Bailed out Gallas when he left a cross for Kalou.

Gallas 6 Did well, couldn't really do much for the goal that was a goal. Small guy vs a huge guy is a strange mismatch. In ideal conditions King would have had Drogba rather than Gallas. Unfortunate slip early on that gave Drogba a free volley.

King 6.5 Yay, he's not broken. Under a week has passed and he's still capable of defending well. A couple of minor issues but a couple of great tackles/blocks.

BAE 6 Excellent off the line clearance which he's not going to get credit for officially. Made a couple of good tackles and was our best full back going forward.

Lennon 6.5 Had a couple of moments when he didn't stick to Cole ideally, but he always tracked back and did an excellent defensive job. Did well on the ball, had the better of Cole when going forward too.

Modric 6 Nice tackles, closing down. Did well to work with VDV, looked good going forward and would have had an assist early on if Luiz hadn't had fouled him when he tried to slide the ball through the Chelsea defence.

Parker 7 Excellent, the injury that got him a rest was looking like a blessing in disguise for a little while (although it would have been a very good disguise). Great work rate as always, great closing down, nice work offensively too. Was really good.

Bale 6.5 Played well, nice goal. Constantly had the beating of Bosingwa and had a great moment when he beat Ramierez, Bosingwa and Luiz in one run, although he got fouled a bit and the ball ran out of play.

VDV 6.5 Did well, but could have done a bit better with a couple of shots. Was supremely unfortunate to have Terry clear his header off the line, put in a lot of good work defensively. I think it was his ball to Ade that hit the post too, so he was very unlucky to not get 2 goals.

Ade 6 Didn't exactly sparkle, but put in a good cross to lead to VDV getting a header cleared off the line and got the assist for Bale's goal by getting brought down by Cech. Nice job letting the ball go when it hit the post, that was so unfortunate, it could have been brilliant.

Harry 6 To be losing 2-1 to a ghost goal is unlucky in the extreme, but he got the starting line up right, the players were playing well enough and if things would have been different we could have been 3-1 up instead of 2-1 down. As for Cudinici vs Friedel, it was rare for Harry to put morals ahead of anything, but I can respect him for that. I thought he'd go for Friedel, so my estimation of him as a man has grown, even if my estimation for him as a manger hasn't.

Taking into account the events after the 4-4-2 switch, Harry loses 2 points for handing control of the game to them. It was a gamble, and understandable, but it still was ill advised. That said, if we had lost and he'd left us 4-4-1-1 people would be complaining about a lack of action. Given we were playing against a 4-2-3-1 with Ramirez and Kalou on the wings for Chelsea, it would probably have been better to sacrifice a defender instead of handing control of the midfield to Chelsea. We are a possession based team (that can counter-attack), but we need that midfield, furthermore, they need that midfield. At least he got Parker off before Parker punched Obi-Mikel.

Cudinci took one wrong step after Lampard hit the free kick, despite it being miles out, so he didn't cover himself in glory.

The entire back four made plenty of mistakes after the VDV for Defoe sub. But the team's heads went down, BAE looked like he was going cry when he was just outside their box.

Parker kept trying until the end... Or until he got subbed off after Mikel kicked him. He's awesome. For all the negativity that signing old players can bring, Parker shows that sometimes it can work beautifully, he was so cheap and he's awesome.

Modric's passing went downhill when our heads dropped, but he also had to deal with being in a 2 man midfield against a fairly narrow 4-2-3-1 with hard working wingers, Ramirez is a defensive box to box player, so he had his work cut out in that position.

Defoe: It's unfortunate to come on and see your team collapse, it's not his fault as a person. I didn't really see much of him because we gave Chelsea the midfield, his one shot was a strange scuff that probably wouldn't have made it to the line. Defoe is great at what he does, but I don't know what's going to happen to him. Harry said after Norwich that we can't play a 4-4-2 because we're too open. So Defoe can only come on when we're losing and Harry wants to gamble, or maybe if a team is parking the bus. If we're losing to a good team, it's usually a bad idea to give up the midfield (especially if they aren't playing a 4-4-2), Harry has played a 3-5-2 before, but we have no CBs at the moment, so I have no idea what Defoe is thinking, maybe he's hoping the next manager plays him more?

The ref gave Chelsea a goal that didn't cross the line (they get one every year), he didn't see Obi-Mikel kick Parker (fudge knows why Obi-Mikel thought winning a game would be a catalyst for kicking people).... He protected Chelsea so fudging much. Well, against Barca they're going to get players sent off.

Our heads shouldn't have dropped like that, but that ghost goal fudged us. At 1-1 Harry doesn't go all out attack or fudge up our shape, he was obviously gambling and when they were winning 3-1 despite scoring 2 goals, you could see our players drop in performance and after 4-1 (which was really 3-1), we'd have had to score 3 goals to get to extra time and 4 to win, so there was no belief after that.

Di Matteo has continued his run of playing brick but getting results one way or another. Good luck to him against Liverpool. I hate Chelsea and Liverpool, but the tiebreaker for me is Di Matteo is like-able and KKKenny is an asshole.

Guys. Modric is tired. Silva was tired as fudge until he got rested for the Arsenal game and he has looked better since coming back (even if not at his best), Mata is also tired although he had a few good moments today and Di Matteo rotates like fudge, so Mata had a bit of a rest earlier. When did Modric last have a rest?

=D>

Great summary Fuego.

Modric and Adebayor. Which is the loanee who returns to his parent club shortly?

Surprised to see Ledley getting decent scores... I thought he was partly at fault for the Ramires and Kalou goals, and also continued to look hesitant - once when he waited for Cudicini to come out, and the other time in the left-back position when he fell over afterwards.

I love the guy, but it's another uncharacteristically nervy / impercet performance, and I do worry that he's on his way out...

Parker deserves at least an 8. This isn't really a criticism as such because he's the most ballsy player in the team, but I wish that he was able to pass that on more to his teammates. He's a great example, but you rarely see him firing the other players up.

Over rated more like. When has he delivered at all this season. The stats dont lie like some on here pretend. Sorry to disullusion you guys, but he isnt the best thing since sliced bread. He doesnt even do what it says on the tin.

He is a bit of a legend because he is cool but how poor was assou ekotto!!! couldnt pass to a team mate, always looks under pressure against big teams.

One of BAE's worst for sure, well since his resurgence I suppose.

Allowing Ramires into the box the way he did for the 3rd was shocking.

i reckon Ledley, and maybe even Parker, were part culpable there as well, King was tight on Ramires in the build up then decided he had to step out, close the ball, and drop him

Exactly. That was clearly King's error but somehow people still blame Ekotto.

He was Ekotto's man. Ekotto let him go and King had to pick him up. Then King pushed up, Walker played him on side. It was a complete cluster fudge. Ekotto also let Mata go in the first half and Mata probably should have scored.

The 3rd goal had nothing to do with 442, they scored from a long range free kick. Defoe should really have been brought on earlier, we did not looking like scoring.

I've been saying for fudging ages that BAE is one of the worst players i've ever seen. The amount of goals he has cost us is ridiculous. Overrated is an understatement. Take your fuzzy hair and fudge OFF.

Adebayor has got a touch like a fudging brick wall.

I cant be arsed with the rest of the ****s, Im too angry.

Hmmm video suggests it was a cluster fudge, was just going by memory, I'm not anti Ekotto just thought it was down to him.

Come on, that goal wasn't Ekotto's fault. Ramires had come right inside, Ekotto left him to Ledley as he had no-one else to mark, and Ekotto also had Bosingwa to cover as Bale was nowhere to be seen. As you say, it was the miscommunication between the other three that was the issue.

Hmmm video suggests it was a cluster fudge, was just going by memory, I'm not anti Ekotto just thought it was down to him.

That was King's man and it was clear at the time. Instead of staying with his man he decided to follow the ball and push up which left the player unmarked. Ekotto then sees this and tries to cover but it's too late and the damage is done.

On 3 occasions in the first half King stops when the game hasn't been stopped by the ref to protest for a call. He literally just stopped and put his hand up when the opposition were still attacking (Gallas did it twice too tbf but at the very least had his arms up whilst he was still running). If Ekotto did that the Ekotto haters on here would have had a field day. Instead they try and pass Kings mistake on the goal onto Ekotto.
