Dortmund Ratings

Baleforce

Ron Henry
Lloris - 6
Much better tonight, no chance with the goals but he didn't have any mad moments and his distribution was mostly very good.

Trippier - 5
Wasted crossing opportunities and lacked concentration.

Davies - 5
Likewise

Toby - 5
Not his usual commanding self, seemed to lose comms with Wimmer a lot.

Wimmer - 5
A few decent clearances and interceptions but far from his usual assured self.

Mason - 5
Never at the pace of the game, worked his gonad*s off though and made some timely appearances, passing was poor.

Carroll - 5
Lucky to not see red, seemed panicky, rushed his passing and consequently gave possession away to often.

Eriksen - 5
Never took hold of the game, gave the ball away cheaply, a night to forget.

Son - 4
Had a shocker, couldn't stay on his feet, as usual since his return everything goes against him, the proverbial barrel of tits.

Onomah - 7
My highlight of the night, tireless running, kept his head whilst all around him etc etc, gave Schemlzer plenty to do and looked our only possible source, unlucky not to win a few extra corners and free kicks, a very mature and impressive performance in difficult circumstances, repayed the faith shown in him.

Chadli - 5
Tough shift with so little behind him, could have done more himself though, panicked in possession and never got his head up.

Kane - 4
Couldn't stay upright.

Lamela - 6
Put a shift in, albeit a short one, picked up a stupid booking.

Dembele - 4
Didn't get into the game at all.

Usually like these threads, but to be honest it's difficult to tell how good or bad we were because they were so good.

How many WC winners were in that side tonight?

100% agree with Onomah's performance. He was one of our best players on the night and looks like a massive prospect. Sadly, this will probably be one of his last full games of the season due to our total focus on the league, but think he'll be a big player for us next season and beyond.

I thought Son was more active than Chadli and had more impact on the game. If the penalty he won would have been properly called, it might look a slightly different tie. Chadli didn't work hard enough off the ball for me, and it's little surprise that Mhktariyan ran riot down our left hand side.

For me, Toby, Wimmer, and Hugo did OK all things considered. It was an absolute onslaught because we just could not keep the ball in midfield or sustain any kind of offensive pressure.

Carroll and Mason were completely outclassed in midfield, but against a side like that without a real holding midfielder, I can't be too upset with their performances (esp b/c they're academy lads). I was stunned that Poch didn't add a third man (Bentaleb, Dembele) to our midfield to help deal with the incredible Mhktariyan and the rest of their talented midfielders.

All in all, a disappointing match, but like most everyone else, I felt like that team really had no chance of beating BVB. Looking forward to Sunday now.

I liked Onomah's performance. Very persistent and confident, even as things fell to brick around him.

I'd give Poch a 2 (1 for showing up, 1 for getting the teamsheet in on time) and excuse the rest of the lads, N/As for all of 'em. Not their fault at all that they were paired up the way they were, on a big European stage, against Borussia Dortmund, at the Westfalenstadion.

most tactically inept performance i've seen from poch. we intentionally played a low block; this was evident in that our fullbacks stopped pushing forward anywhere near as much, and we used a flat back four, rather than the 3 system when dier is present. We had absolutely no outlet up top meant that while we weren't countered on too much, we weren't ever posing a threat and it was a training ground exercise for dortmund.

the players were bad too though. Chadli - never lead the line for spurs again please; disinterested, lazy, just not at the races today. He didn't chase or challenge for high balls. unless the ball was placed at his feet, he wasn't interested. lazier than the worst adebayor days. let me be even handed. worst game i've seen from tom carroll so far, and i'm a fan. mason invisible. i actually liked son's performance today, felt like he was the only person who could make something happen. lamela looked good when he came on as well. both fullbacks didn't really cover themselves in glory.

fml.

The biggest problem our lads faced was playing in a team with seven changes versus a team that had been playing together all season! Can't blame the players too much for a sub par performance in that context!

With the provisio that I didn't see the full match, the two things that stood out for me in the minutes I saw were the middle of the park - Carroll and Mason was never going to work and so it proved. We conceded the midfield and when you do that the match is usually only going to end one way. The 2nd thing I noticed was that our full backs were overloaded on almost every attack. They got almost no help and for that reason I won't judge them too harshly.

The full backs barely got a chance to live to the half way line and were pinned back. They were given no support from midfield or attack unfortunately

You can't play Chadli against any team that attacks us as he doesn't harass, chase or press.

Son works best with a player in front, not as that front man

Eriksen was ok all things considered

The midfield two were bypassed by sheer pace and energy. They were up against vastly superior Players

I thought Toby and Kevin helped keep us in ten game by playing well actually but they were under the cosh

When I saw the team, I said Lost. For. Words. And so it proved.

I was at least expecting some cunning tactical plan from Poch to maybe counteract BD. Maybe three at the back? Perhaps 3-5-1. Maybe 4-6-0 or 4-3-3. Put Bentaleb on for extra cover?

However to try and keep to our standard 4-2-3-1 with vastly inferior players was just asking for the hammering we got. Poor all round by Poch
