My parents brought me to the Isle of Wight in 1970, where apparently I also saw him. I was three. I have to be honest, my memories are not clear at all. Of anything! Not even The Doors!

Yes they most certainly did...it's still possible to find good ones, and I have to say, Glastonbury remains a great selection of music and experiences, but it is hard to top the old Reading bills...
Then Oasis ruined it by getting the chavs into guitar music.

If you look back at new bands that have gotten to a headlining slot at big festivals in the last 15 years, most of them have disappeared again.

Eddy Grant - Camden Palace (just for sheer entertainment value, he and his band were off their heads)
Big Audio Dynamite - Milton Keynes, they were actually brick but someone through a chicken leg at them and they stormed off stage as no one would own up to it !!
ZZ Top - Milton Keynes, just bloody good fun
now I'm old, recently took daughter to Ed Sheeran, puts on a decent show and has talent, and hate to say it but Rudimental were great live (shame they're all scum fans)

I was there as well, we arrived the day after it started and the first band we saw was The Groundhogs and Tony Mcphee was brilliant ( his version of Amazing Grace brought the house down). I was quite out of it for most of the time there
but my favourite of the week was Cohen.

I am so envious at some of you. I'm too young for so many of the bands and artists I love, unfortunately. Have had many good ones though:
Type o negative in the 90s at a small venue in Oslo. Skunk anansie, Metallica, Suede, The Who, Robbie Williams (!) - all great concerts at Roskilde.
In recent years I've seen some golden oldies at Sweden rock festival, like Twisted Sister, N41Motorhead, Def Leppard, lots of old school rock. Some of these bands are just there to milk the fans, but there are so many genuine metalheads and fans at Sweden rock, the atmosphere is always great - even when Axl Rose's new Gun's roses makes us wait two hours before they take the stage.
Also Dio, Ozzy, Gary Moore had wonderful shows there.
Foo Fighters playing 8000 people in a small Oslo festival a few years back was amazing too. Fantastic show. Tom Petty at the same place, top notch.
Buena Vista social club, a bunch of old Cubans in an old theatre in Melbourne...that was somethibg else.
Too many to mention I guess. I'd give my left arm to go back and see Queen in their prime. That's the big one for me, besides Bon Scott era AC/DC.
Ive seen AC/DC a few tines in recent years, and its great fun, but a little too predictable.
This summer Im seeing Queen with Adam Lambert. Definitely not the same (not even close) as Freddie, but I'm still very much looking forward to it.

I take your point, I guess there isn't the depth there now
it's harder for newer bands these days too, the money isn't there for them to tour like the old days

Saw queen in Knebworth '86 or was it '85....over 120k there..doing radio ga ga was amazing....remember leaving the car park there at 7am next morning only had one exit stuck in traffic lol.
U2 at MSG,New York was amazing and everytime they tour....Manics/'Phonics through the years.A welsh group called the Alarm rocked the place.Remember seeing INXS when they were at their height of popularity,did a small gig at Cardiff Uni again superb.

It's held near a small town in southern Sweden called Sölvesborg, first or second weekend in June. About 36000 people, four days of concerts, and generally a very relaxing and friendly atmosphere - quite a few old bands means quite a few old fans too, but it's a great mix up between the older and younger fans. Family friendly too.
I've been camping there with a group of friends since 2006, and never eve seem or heard about any fighting or other brick. People do get drunk and take a lot of other funky substances there as well, but they never end up fighting - they're there for the music and the good times.

i remember around that period Queen were struggling a bit.....their Live Aid performance helped them greatly in getting back in peoples minds.....such a shame what happened to Freddie a few years later,they be still getting sell outs if they were altogether now.
