***OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Everton***

Probably a fair result.. Although we hit the woodwork twice, could have been 3-1 on another day.

Oh well, cest la vie, keep on keeping on, onwards and upwards and all that.

So, a draw to start the New Year, we had chances to go ahead in the first, instead fell behind against run of play. We draw then it was Everton's half in the second I felt. A fair result, but we'll rue missing out on grabbing the advantage in the first half when we put in a great performance.

Good effort all around, but Martinez got his team well prepared for what we were going to bring. Defensively they were much better than they have been.

Phew. End to end game in the second half, we were matched man for man far more effectively than we were in the first. I was tempted to see the specter of the Saudi Sportswashing Machine collapse/crumble, but honestly, we tried to play the same way in the second half, with the same intensity - the only difference was that Everton stepped up their game and matched us, rather than any shortcomings on our part. Good point, decent start to 2016.

Observations -

- Carroll again held his own in midfield today. Honestly, the lad deserves to be there, and he's taken the chances he's been given.
- Toby-Jan imperious as usual, although Lukaku did cause them more problems than most strikers manage.
- Kane had a bad game today - nothing that went up to him stuck, he was ineffective with his passes and shots (especially on that chested Alli through-ball that sent him clear) and he laboured in isolation up front for most of the game. Lukaku was marginally more effective, getting the assist for that Lennon goal.

Not a great half, and again, didn't really create anything.

I know people will cry about me saying it, but Carroll, if he wasn't playing we'd have been so much stronger. Not only is he the weakest footballer I've ever seen. Literally. He gives the ball away so so so much. We'd have won that with dembele.

And Kane looked fudgeed second half. Truly fudgeed/

Carroll looked better than Dier

I love Dier but he gave away the ball a few times in costly areas

Carroll started well. We started well.

Absolutely brick defending all round for their only bit of play
Son was everywhere and tried but Chadli didn't do a thing as usual

Agenda alert.

I love son but he gave the ball away every time he got it and made wrong decision after wrojg decison. Chadli was on for far less time and didn't get the chance to get involved as play dictated.

To call him out and defend son is nonsense

Is Danny Rose on the bench? would stick him on for Lamela to double up on the spanish lad. Plus Rose is not too shabby going forward.
That what I was hoping for. Didn't cost us though, although I am not sure why Chadli is above some in the pecking order.

I want Eriksen out of the team! He offers no presence at all! To blame for the first goal with another insipid 'effort' out on the flank. Until he regains form, I would prefer Son in the team. Ben Davies is not as good as Rose and I think today showed why, (where was he for the Lennon goal?). He gets caught out of position and is about as intimidating as being savaged by a dead sheep. Rose has the intimidation factor and with a run of games will be steady. His problem this season has been interrupted game time. Carroll...no, no, no. Too small and not good enough. I think Poch got his selections wrong today. Carroll should not have played and neither should Davies.

Grow up, today Lamela and Eriksen were far worse then Carroll.

The were actually a couple of defence splitting passes by the lad we just could not take advantage of them is all.

The is a reason why Poch is playing him and he is a successful football coach and your just a fan from a depressing northern town.

I doubt it, we've had all the ball and they've been working hard to defend

We were working very hard to win the ball back in their half every time we lost it with a misplaced pass (which was more often than you'd like). I think it showed towards the end as well; we were defending like drunks in the final 5 or 10 minutes.

The second half was even. Hugo made one save and I remember Howard making more

Class defensive set up and they played well at the back

They were always going to get more ball in the second half playing another holder in Besic who I thought was their best player full stop. He was everywhere

Kane started well but faded massively in the second half and dropped back for son to lead the line

Toby is a fudging beast

Let's see that stats after the game

I'd wager that son had twice as many touches in a little more time

The guy offers nothing

We have progressed beyond Chadli now

I thought Eriksen had a good game today, actually. Lamela showed some of his old sins, keeping hold of the ball for too long too many times. Carroll did well overall, I thought. Had a few poor passes and clearances, but had a good game overall.
We completely outplayed them in the first half though, should've made it count. Alli MOM for me, what a goal that was!

So disappointed not to beat Everton, Martinez really annoys. Why is he not called the skinny Spanish waiter? I'm trade marking that one:p

Not a bad result though and many teams will struggle here. Bit to many Hollywood type balls second half

I said some time ago that if Dembele got injured we would lack efficiency in the midfield...and that we need another strong player in that area.
Erikson not being able to make things happen then?
Dier moving forward apparently towards the end of the game!
If that's so, it proves my point that we still lack power in the middle of the park.

I can't see us making a challenge for the top now...

Where in Gods name is Pritchard......... oh yeah and Nije..LOL

Anyway...disappointing wit poop bums winning!
