Ratings vs Soton

Lloris: 7 - Two world class saves but some dodgy distribution and the uncharacteristic moaning at the team constantly in the first half annoyed me.
Walker: 7.5 - Struggled to contain Tadic at times, peach of an assist for Alli's goal.
Verts and Alder: 8 - Saw off the early onslaught with aplomb, thought they were left horribly exposed by Dier, Alli and Dembele.
Davies: 6 - Solid enough but offers nothing going forward. Get well soon Danny.
Dier: 6 - Thought he was non existent in the first half, improved in the second. Needs a rest.
Dembele: 8 - BOSS.
Alli: 7 - Gets .5 for the goal. Struggled to get into the game I felt.
Eriksen: 6 - A luxury player I am losing patience for, his set pieces have turned to brick and not sure what else he offers.
Lamela: 7.5 - Hard work. Skill. Endeavour. My favourite player.
Kane: 8 - Led the line like a pro, got his goal. Worked his socks off. Keep em coming Harry.

I didn't get to see much of the game but it seems Alli and Dier were pretty average again? maybe its about time we rotated and gave them a little rest. I would hate for them to get burnt out or lose confidence.

Alli was very poor in general play, this being the total sum of his passes over 79 minutes:

Yet despite that he still picked up a goal and an assist so not sure how you go about rating his performance.

Can''t believe that people thought Alli and Dier were average yesterday

Alli made the first goal - he won the ball deep in our half, found Lamela, moved to receive the return and has the guts and awareness to stay focused on playing in Kane despite knowing he was going to get a hell of a clattering from Fonte. Then three minutes later he not only burst forward with one of his lung busting runs but had the spatial awareness to keep onside, stay on the blind side of the last defender and the move into space at just the right time for Walker's pass for a then simple tap in.

Dier was constantly closing space, often without needing to jump into challenges and it was his vision that provided the perfect pass for Walker's run leading to the second goal.

As for Walker struggling to contain Tadic... the Saints winger was totally anonymous all game and that was no coincidence. Still cannot fathom how underrated Walker is among our fans.
And Eriksen a luxury player? Suggest you look into the miles he runs every game before writing something like that. Yes - not everything he tried worked yesterday but until Pritchard is fit, we have no real playmaker alternative to him.

I suspect our season has taken some people so much by surprise that unrealistic expectations are being sown for what is ultimately an inexperienced bunch of kids who are way punching above their weight...

Alli has been struggling for weeks. But he has a knack of producing great moments during a game. He looks tired to me and he doesn't have a passing range to help him control games when he's not playing well. Hopefully it comes.....

Got a goal yesterday and against WBA - in both games I thought he was very average overall.

For me son should replace Erisken against norwich and Bentelab should come in for alli to freshen things up

The last paragraph is massively key now

Some people are expecting a level beyond where we are at consistently because we have shown how good we an be (not how good we are)

Bang on for me, there are some fans who overate just how good this YOUNG team are at this time and they are the same fans who get bent out of shape when we fail to win.

The truth is we are a YOUNG side who are still growing and learning as a side and they will be good days and bad days.

Going by the OMT as it happened - goal and assist aside - he was poor overall. But all the press ratings I've seen gave him glowing reports and/or made him MotM.

It definitely seems like the media focused only on his more significant contributions whereas we fans were significantly more discerning if not downright critical.

I never got the good ratings, just because a player scored a goal. The goal might add a half point or a point, but if he's been average and struggling the whole match, then the rating should reflect that. Alli was pretty poor by his standards for most of the match, so I wouldn't give him more than a 6-6.5

Yes, hence why it's no surprise that Toby & Dembele actually have some of the biggest impact on our team (as the more elder/experienced heads)

Yeah agree with most on here, even LCLC ;) Despite Alli getting incredible end product, becaus3 he's an immense talent, his general play was pretty bad and gave the ball away so much. Dier seemed good to me though, better than the past few matches. Kane was back to being excellent, but still feel without rest he'll be inconsistent. Lamela was amazing as per. Eriksem was average...worryingly.

I think resting Alli and Eriksen would give them both a rest/kick up the bum and give us great options from the bench.

I dully didn't think we were great and relied on a Kane out of nothing goal like last season. But saying that, once we got the lead, we then began to control the game without really going for it which was nice to see.

Really hope we do some business in January - CB, dm and striker are so vital.

30 mins into yesterday's game and my mates were saying how we have been brick the same as last week . I then piped up and said we were good last week in the first half but agree we we poor in the second but it was a game that was lost due to Hugo having an Awful game by his standards and a tired performance in the end. At half time last week people were talking top 4 and title. After the game the talk was how toss we are.

We then scored and low and behold it became a great performance. The second half last week was as bad as we have been all season but that shouldn't change the view that we have generally been very good but also were on a learning curve. Fans don't seem to want to accept the negative elements but will gladly take the positive ones

The voice of reason as usual

You need some brighter mates ;)

Bit harsh on Lloris there I would think. He made three worldies.

He made three good saves which he is good at, however he also still needs work on his kicking as he turned it over a few times.

He is a very good keeper ( for sure) but he is not perfect.

I've seen some position map from one of his games as #10 showing him further forward than Kane overall (I think those were shown during a game).

He naturally drifts more in and out of the game further forward. His style as the number 10 seems to be to play rather close to Kane and go on runs beyond him too. Means fewer involvements and more involvements under more pressure which will mean losing possession more often.

Similarly to a striker that drifts in and out of the game giving a numerical rating to his performance becomes difficult. Ultimately for me he seems to be doing the job he's asked to do. As long as he's getting into scoring positions from that role and doing his job defensively he deserves a good rating.

I think there's a handful who always expect superb performances while still thinking we're a bit brick.
