***OMT*** Spurs vs Southampton

I'd be very tempted to throw in Onomah for this one. So front four of Dembele - Onomah - Lamela - Kane with Alli/Bentaleb - Dier anchoring the midfield. Enough quality around the youngster to not put that much pressure on him and Poch can always sub in Eriksen, if it's not clicking. He looked good against Monaco, which should merit a start, especially given most of our other options are either injured (Mason, N'Jie), just returning (Chadli), or not in form (Son). Sometimes putting in players that are eager to prove themselves helps, although I do realize that Carroll's start didn't quite work out as well. But that shouldn't mean that it won't for Onomah.

Onomah's a bit stocky, and he's also surprisingly hard to knock off the ball fr a traditional AM: I think we'll need that sort of player against S'oton, especially if they play Wanyama. Eriksen can ride the bench for a bit: Lamela takes our corners in a more consistently threatening fashion anyway.

Surely, this is a must-win match for us. With 9 points behind the first placed-Leicester, we are no longer in the title race but find ourselves fighting for the 4th-6th places instead. If all the results don't go our way, we will drop all the way down to 8th in the league. With no win in 3 matches, we have let teams like Palace, Watford and West Ham to catch up on us. Both us and Southampton are in poor form now. Southampton are without a win in 5 matches while we have 1 win in 5 matches. So, both teams desperately need a win in this match. We have a great record against Southampton in recent years, winning 5 and drawing 1 of our last 6 matches against them. We have to make use of that record to get a win here.

We only seem to win when our only striker,Kane, scores nowadays. So, we badly need Kane scoring again. But he is without a goal in 3 matches. Somehow, we need to get him score in this match. For all his skills and workrate, Lamela really should be scoring more goals. But Lamela did score against Southampton last season. Son seems to have forgotten how to score goals since his injury. Eriksen has been very inconsistent this season that won't mind if he doesn't start in this match. Even if Eriksen starts, will prefer Lamela to take freekicks as Eriksen can't seems to take good freekicks nowadays. Really not sure where our goals are coming from in this match. But for our sake, hope Kane will find his goal scoring boots again.

Pochettino should have learned a lesson or two from the Saudi Sportswashing Machine defeat. He should have realised by now that we cannot rely on inexperienced youngsters like Carroll to start in the league. I am convinced the inclusion of Carroll unsettled our midfield more against Saudi Sportswashing Machine, rather than the absence of the injured Dembele. Pochettino should not do the same mistake again. Hope Dembele will return from injury in this match. We badly need his workrate and control in midfield. Have to be worried about the form of Dier and Alli now as they have been in bad form in recent matches. Won't mind if Dembele partner one of them while the other get rested in this match.

Our defence was very disappointing against Saudi Sportswashing Machine, especially Alderweireld and Lloris. If both had been more alert, we could have prevented both the goals by Saudi Sportswashing Machine. Hope both will be more alert and careful in this match. We cannot afford to make any silly errors as Southampton got the players who could hurt us, especially our ex player Caulker. Since we got this bad habit of letting our ex players score against us, maybe we will need atleast 2 goals to win this match.

We badly need to win this match. All the points we have thrown away by drawing those matches have come back to affect us now. Other teams might overtake us if we don't win this match. After losing our unbeaten record against Saudi Sportswashing Machine, hope will get a positive reaction and result from the team.

This is not a must win. A draw away to a mid table side is fine in our situation.

Not in terms of our supposedly 'easy' run. Not in terms of our development either, if I'm being honest: drawing and losing to sides like West Brom, S'oton and Saudi Sportswashing Machine isn't likely to be a 'learning experience', given that we did that last season as well.

In terms of our targets this season a draw away to Southampton is certainly fine as far as I can tell.

I struggle to understand what your point is with "learning experience".

He should have realised by now that we cannot rely on inexperienced youngsters like Carroll to start in the league.

Carroll is actually our most experienced CM. He's played more first team games in his career than any of Dier, Alli, Mason and Bentaleb, and is the second oldest of those 5.

Everybody dance now!

Annoyingly, this match is not being shown live here in Asia, no thanks to us for being shyte in recent matches. After losing our long unbeaten run to Saudi Sportswashing Machine last week, we must recover quickly and win this match or it will affect us mentally long term. Hope we will turn up with the right mentality and win this match !

Never predict a Spurs game. Southampton are hurting and will be looking to getting their season back on track. We looked very limp at the back last week, Vertonghen was poor for the Saudi Sportswashing Machine second compounded by Hugo's blunder. Verts is too slow and for a centre half in a Poch team must limit your long term employment prospects. Maybe we now know why we bought Wimmer

I disagree. 2 points from our last 3 games currently, a draw would make it 3 from 4 games. Forget our long unbeaten run, we'd be on a run of 4 without a win

Going to be like a cup game this with both sides desperate to recover form. Who will have the inspiration to do something special? Both sides lacking a bit of magic up front at times.

So if we had beaten Saudi Sportswashing Machine the Southampton game wouldn't have been a must win?

I prefer a slightly larger perspective, where the result of one game doesn't immediately impact the expectations for the next one (up until the end of the season where this becomes inevitable).

So you'd be happy going 4 league games without a win?

Happy overall with those 4 games? Not really. Particularly the loss against Saudi Sportswashing Machine was a disappointment. I don't think that disappointment needs to be overstated though and like the draw against WBA a draw against Southampton should be enough to get us to where we want to be this season.

Of course I would be happier with a win.

Last season the longest run without a win of the top 4 teams was 4. That was Emirates Marketing Project. Both Man United and Arsenal went 3 games without a win. So far this season both United and Arsenal have gone 3 games without a win.

I think we can go on a 4 game streak without a win and still reach our targets, and ultimately that's the only thing that matters. Heaping unrealistic expectations our demands on the team based on what is essentially one or two disappointing performances/results seems counter productive to me. But that's perhaps because to me it seems like justification for those that complain the most after games to go on a rant if their high expectations are not met.
